They were also bred as nanny dogs (think Peter pan), They are intelligent, fast learners and also extremely loyal. I have mine, he was abused as a puppy, when he gets scared of even small puppy he flips over and pees himself. Now take into mind that he now weighs 90 pounds and picture a red heeler on him, actually quite a humorous ordeal.
I have had mine for 8 years, she has never bit anyone but the rest of my families dogs have bitten my son numerous times. They have Gordon setters, cocker spaniels, springer's and all the "family" dogs.

I have a pure breed blue nose pitbull .. and he is a angel but when need be he protects his family.! ive had him since he was a baby.. pit bulls are born with aggression but its up to the owner to make sure they dont stay with that aggression .. by treating them right .. my dog has never bitten anyone.

Edit to add; no they should not be banned ii dont think any dog should be banned if you treat them right they wont be so mean.
