in buffalo grove they have breed laws.. pitbulls are NOT allowed. Even if you had one before.

You can breed any type of dog to be more violent, but it's mostly how you train an animal.
Certain types of dogs are more prone to hunt, have an instinct to chase smaller animals/kids and be overly protective to where it would cause harm to other people.

They're not a trustworthy breed, but if you're careful and raise them right from the start and check the bloodline before them, then maybe they'll be a good pet.

Also when a pit bull bites, they lock down and don't let go for anything...as opposed to a Labrador or a hunting breed who has a soft jaw so as not to harm the duck/fowl they're retriving for their owner.

So true. our chihuahua is a bitch and will bite you. our pit is a huge baby who hides when people come around.

a friend of mine has a jack russell thats the meanest nastiest little thing i've ever seen.... pitt bulls have the ability to be killers easily, but they have to be taught

I had a pittbull and her and my daughter use to rough play around the house like two kids. she never harmed her and she was very protective of her. i think that its the owners that make dogs mean. and thats any breed.

i have a yorkie mix and he definitely has an attitude problem, our boxer on the other hand is the happiest nicest dog i have ever seen, yet people are still terrified of her.

im not saying this is every pitbull out there but my aunt had two pitbulls for years and they were sweet as could be and then one day out of no where they just snapped and got extremely violent and they had to get animal control to come get them. i had a next door neigbor have the same issue with his rott...so i personally think that its not always the owner, sometimes the dogs pre dispositon can breakk through, but you never know really. our cocker spaniel was a sweet heart that never even barked but they are suposed to be testy and horrible with kids so its really ahrd to say

Yes they do have the lock down jaws. But if they are raised right, then they wont bite.
My pit's have never snapped or bitten at ANYONE. Their big babies. If you raise them right, there's no problem.

I can't vote on your poll, I don't like pits..but i don't hate them.
ANY dog has to potential to be dangerous. Some dogs are more prone to be aggressive then others, but all dogs have the potential to be trained to attack....and all dogs have the potential to "turn" and attack or bite. That is why you don't leave children and dogs (well any pet for that matter) unsupervised.
i do personally believe Pits do have a bad rep though that they don't deserve.

Quoting MandyLoo:“ Ugh, this topic always get's me upset. It's not the dogs, it's the owners. I have pit bulls and they are big babies. I also have a 6 week old son, and they would never harm him.”

I agree.
My pitt was the most gentle dog I ever owned.

I'd like to say its the owners.. But I was at my Dads best friends house like 8 yrs ago and he has Pitts.. Well we were all sitting at the kitchen table and the 2 Pitts were laying down by the guy.. These were family dogs around kids and people since birth.. Well out of nowhere the one jumped up and started biting the guy.. The other one started barking and then attacked the guy.. It was weird bc nothing happened to make the dogs attack..
I was attacked by a Chow.. I just hate all dogs in general now..

Its my opinion and that's why I voted that way. Pits in my opinion aren't attractive as some other breeds, their disposition and tendency to be over protective is scary and I'd rather have a different breed. I've seen a child mauled by a pit who's owner was just walking down the street and the kid was being rowdy and loud.

Just my opinion...I'm not saying all pits are bad; I just don't prefer them.
