Changing baby formula

posted 19th Aug
OK so my 2 month old has been very gassy, fussy, and VERY constipated ever since I brought her home. The only way she will sleep is if there is slight pressure on her tummy. Alot of people have told me it could be because she is lactose intolerant. I did ask jer Dr. about switching from the Neosure to something else and she just won't listen to me. . I went and bought some Similac Sensitive(it's lactose free) yesterday and have been feeding to her and ever since she has been almost the perfect baby. I guess my question is would any of you gone against what the Dr. said if you just had a gut feeling it was the formula making your baby sick?

Whew thanks girls...i'm so glad this formula is working with her because I have been so tired. I have to go back to work in a couple of weeks and I was scared because I don;t get hardly any sleep. Before she only slept 2 hrs in a row if I was lucky...she slept 6 hrs in a row last nite. i'm so happy lol

Ugh. im afraid to do stuff like that. i feel like every spitup and all gas is my fault.. so i dont know how id deal if it made him sick or something.

But i was about to make a thread about this:

My mom just brought home A TON (like 10 big cans) of the "generic" formula (that says comparable to the formula ive been using) she got it all for a good deal: IS IT THE SAME? Does anyone do this? (use the generic kind that says similar to their original formula)? ALL the ingredients are the same....

im still a little nervous to use it.

Teddy was exactly the same. He was on regular formula, & I asked my midwife if I could switch to a sensitive one because of how gassy he was, & she told me a strict no, & to find other ways of soothing him.

Nothing worked, so I switched him to the sensitive stuff, & he was a totally changed baby!

Yah, he would just scream scream scream. I'd spend FOREVER burping him, trying to get all his wind up. Then I would do these baby massages that the midwife told me to do, to get his gas out. I'd walk around with him - everything.

The formula he was first on was just no good for him, I had to do something. & he was fine after I switched! & I started using fabulous gas drops, that actually worked

The first time I switched her formula it was under 'doctor's orders'. The second time I did it was at my own discretion. I wouldn't have done it any other way.
I agree that sometimes Mommy's know better than Pedi's.

Yeeep, he had MAM bottles up until he was 7 months, then I switched to Avent, because those bottles were getting old.

I used Colief gas drops, Idk if you have them there? They're like £10 ($20) for one bottle... & the bottle is TINY. But they worked so well!

i just re-read you original post

even with the sensitive formula amber was still constipated so i tried apple juice- no response - then KARO corn syrup and that helped.. but now she's 3 months so i use prune juice 2 oz w/2 oz water and it's the best thing yet for her constipation
