car seats

posted 18th Aug
So I registered for a travel system, but my aunt gave me a jogging stroller that she had recieved as a present for the little boy she was going to adopt a few years ago, but unfortunately the adoption never went through, and she never got to use the stroller. So she gave it to me and I'm definitely not begrudging it... it's super cute! My only problem now is that I don't know what kind ofcarseat to get. I'm trying to find a infant to toddler car seat but can't seem to find one that i like, or if I do, it's like, $350. I've found some infant seats that I really like for much less (around $80). My question is, how old were your babies when they grew out of their infant seats? Is it worth getting an infant to toddler seat or will it be a while before he needs a bigger seat? Any suggestions?

You need the infant seat first. You can't use a convertiable seat for a newborn.

Also, you will still need a stroller, unless your jogging stroller can be used for an infant, in which case I have never seen one of those. If it is the one I am picturing in my head with the 3 wheels.

You don't need it for awhile if you have the infant car seat. I thinkI switched around 6.5 months.

I got ours at walmart, it will go from 0-100 lbs. Although I did find a carryall was great when they were really little because you didn't have to constantly take them out of the carseat just take it with you. We've always had two. Check around and see if there is anyone you know looking to get rid of one, look in the paper too.

Think about it this way.. for what woulda been spent on a travel system (usually like 120-250) and what would be spent on a toddler seat (usually atleast 75+) a convertable seat is around the same price.

Yes you can use a convertible with a newborn. Any jogging stroller I have seen says to use at 6 months and up as well.

your baby wont fit in a jogging stroller at a young age will he/she? we bought a travel system and she is 9 1/2 mths and still in her infant seat-she is almost 20 lbs and 30 in long so her feet do hang over but they say that is fine. you can find cheaper ones at target or walmart that are infant/toddler (convertible) check online at those stores- we got one at big lots that sold for $150 at walmart but we got it for $80- check there- also remember you cannot take a convertible seat shopping with you in the shopping cart- so that will be a pain and you cant put a conv. seat in a stroller either- so i would personally still get a travel system- it is the best thing we bought!

Yah, I know that he can't ride in it until he's 6 weeks old; I do have a sling I'll use for walking around places. Unless preggo brain has got me and I'm not thinking things through properly. Which is entirely possible.

I have a convertable seat from newborn-booster seat. My son was out of the infant carrier at a little less then 3 months because I could barely lift it with him in it anymore. He was also 14lbs by then though - he was 9 to start - but smaller babies are much easier to carry

Mine could still fit in their infant seats at 1 year, But i switched them at like 9 and 10 months, because thay were so uncomfortable and i could not go anywhere in the car with out them screaming.

Thanks for the input! My jogging stroller instructions say that Zane can fit in it at 6 weeks, but no sooner. my grandmother gave us a $200 target gift card, so we're snooping around target.com. We may still get a travel system, it's really sounder better all the time.

My infant car seat goes up to 30 lbs! It's great and will last a long time and is soo convenient when he falls asleep in the car I don't have to take him out of the car seat. I just carry him in the carrier. This is the one I have and I highly recommend it!

I'm getting the graco snug ride for around 80-90 dollars. I read the revews and someone was in a rollover accident with one and the baby was fine. They say this is one thing you don't want to buy second hand cuz you don't want it to have possibly been in an accident. They also say to not rush putting them forward-its way safer to ride backwards.

My daughter outgrew her infant seat by height first at 10 months. She had a Graco Snugride. Then I got hera Sunshine Kids Radian 80, which can also be used for infants in the rear-facing position. I love the Radian, it comes in Radian 60 as well and is narrow enough to not take up the whole back seat.
