is it the sperm the only thing that makes labor progress or does the actual act help too?

I've been told there there are certain chemicals from the male that will induce labor... But I was also told the an orgasism will make the uterus contract and might help things speed along... thats why some people may have pain after sex

Sperm does not help with labor! There is not enough of the "Certain Chemical" to do anything!

I have been told that sperm helps to soften the cervix and orgasims help with contracting the uterus

Not true- it DOES help:
Human semen is the most concentrated source of prostaglandins (the substance that drugs such as Cervidil, Prepidil, & Cytotec attempt to mimic) which helps the mother's body go into labor.

Trust me there is not enough of it to help the body go into labor or i would have actually not had to be induced! I was told by my doc that "yeah the substance in sperm could help a woman go into labor, but there is just a tiny bit of that substance in the sperm and there would never be enough of it to actually make a woman go into labor!

I guess that just depends on the woman and how much her labor needed to progress.
