MY BABY DOESN'T SLEEP- help me!

posted 18th Aug
My son is 2 months old and he's awake ALL day with a few 15-20 minute naps and he wakes up at LEAST every 2 hours at night. I don't think he's ever slept more than 2 hours at a time! He's on nutramigen and I'm breastfeeding a little bit-- he might get a few oz. a day of that. On breastmilk alone he had stomach problems, and on nutramigen alone he had stomach problems. He has terrible gas- I give him colic calm and mylicon. He doesn't seem to be in pain most of the times that he wakes up, but he's fussy all the time and just wallows like he can't get comfortable. He needs to be held to get to sleep and won't sit in his bouncy seat/swing/playpen for more than a few minutes without crying to be held. I start college back full time thursday and I don't know what to do with him! How am I going to survive? A few people have suggested that I take him to Arkansas Children's Hospital but I'm not really sure anything is wrong with him. Please give me some advice!

My son is 2 months tomorrow and we had the same problem. And he has been on 5 different formulas just no BFing. Hes on the Similac Isomil and its helped. I also used the Colic Calm and it did nothing for him. I use a swing and that seems to calm him and I rub his tummy a LOT. I dont know if thise helps but hopefully

Unfourtunatly he sounds like he has colic. My daughter was like that too. Very fussy and had lots of problems with constipation, and keeping formula down. It may do some good to take him to a Pediatric GI specialist or a regular GI doctor. But it sounds like you have tried everything. Have you tried soy formula? I'm not familiar with nutramigen. He may just have to outgrow this. I know it doesn't make things easier for you or your baby sitter. I would suggest talking to another doctor. Maybe then can run a few tests and make sure everything is in working order.

A new system that involves the five S's — swaddling, side/stomach positioning in the parents' arms, shushing, swinging, and sucking — can calm most crying infants, Dr. Karp said. This activates the baby's calming reflex during the first three to four months of life by mimicking experiences in the uterus.

He'll sleep on my chest for an hour or so, it's just really going to be hard to do homework with him there and not waking him up. We have the graco sweetpeace swing and he HATES it.. my luck-- that thing was expensive. He won't take a pacifier.. my boobs are his pacifier and that's pretty inconvenient as well. Agh.. it's stressful.

Yeah.. if only someone knew what colic was!!! We tried breast milk, then soy, then nutramigen. Nutramigen is hypoallergenic- no soy or milk at all. I guess I could take him to the doctor. Sometimes I just feel like I'm complaining too much and this is how babies are, lol. My first must have just been a great baby.

I tried one brand of gripe water, then some really expensive stuff called colic calm that's supposed to be the best gripe water out there. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't

Well thank you all for your advice. Sounds like I need to keep doing what I'm doing and hopefully it will pass soon. I just don't want to be looking over any kind of serious medical condition. I might take him to the doctor. If I find something out, I'll be back with the info.
