My very anti-social baby.....

posted 18th Aug
So my son is 3 months old. Ever since he was born he has never done really well around a lot of people. Lately though he flat out cannot handle it! If I take him anywhere with a lot of people he completely metls down and cries horribly. It isnt public places it is more like family get togethers. Everytime I take him to the in-lawsthey usually have about9-10 people there and he crys then entire time. Last night we went to my aunts for a birthday party and he screamed bloody murder and I literaly had to take him to the back room and sit in there by myself to get him to calm down. What sets him off is when people talk to him. I can be standing there holding him and if someone other than me, dad, or my sister come up to him and speak to him he startsscreaming. It is very frustrating because I feel like I cant take him anywhere. It makes me sad also because he is known as "a cry baby" by all my family. I thought 3 months was to young to have such bad stranger anxiety but I swear this kid doesnt want ANYONE to talk or look at him!! Anyone else have this problem??

I was like that when I was a baby. I would cry and scream when anyone except my parents held me. But it turns out that I was allergic to milk and sugar and was in constant pain and only my parents comforted me.

I'm sure that's not the case, but maybe it's something along those lines? Good luck though.

how is he with other loud and unusual noises? babies at his age can't really "remember" or in your case not remember people bedsides recognizing you and possibly his daddy.... so the idea of stranger anxiety is not really applicable t that age yet.......... what's more likely is that he's sensitive to sound stimulation..specifficly voices.....
does it bother him if you turn the tv or radio up near him?
thats really all I can offer.......... I hope he starts feeluing more comfortable in his world for you soon

Noises dont bother him. I swear his dad is half deaf because he turns the TV up so loud, so the baby is used to it. The only consistent thing I have noticed is when people talk to him. If he is in he chair or if I am holding him as soon as someone bends down and speaks to him he sticks out his bottom lip, pouts, then starts screaming. The only person other than me and his dad that he doesnt do it to is my sister. She is his babysitter so thats why I think he is ok with her. I just dont know what to think but we are flying to Buffalo in 2 weeks to visit family so I am really nervous that he is going to be stressed out the whole time.

weird........ is it anyone? or mostly men? or people on one side of the family...........My little guy didn't like my grandfather.... but I think it's b/c he was so shakey when he held him.
I don't know what else to tell you...... thats pretty odd.... usually babies are drawn to voices.
It's normal for them not to like ot be held by othe rpeople, but I think this might be the first time I've heard of a situation like yours.

my daughter was the exact same way. She actually didn't start to calm down until the past 3 months and she is 3 now. We could go places but heaven forbid somebody talked to her!!
