Dogs

I was just wondering how many people had big dogs and how they got along with their babies..... I have an one year old english mastiff who I love very much, but my family keeps telling me I need to get rid of her before the baby is born because she is too big I really dont want to get rid of my dog. How did you go about introducing your dog to your baby?

my parenst have lways had big dogs and they even ended up with twins and thier last abby born at only 30 weeks........... so no, you don't need to get rid of your dog.....but do be careful thats all.....

I have a 100 lb. yellow lab and he is Julia best friend. She loves him so much. We just made sure from the get-go that gage understood the baby is not a toy, lol. And now, he'd kill for her.

OMG I have a 15 month old English Mastiff. I love her to death. She is my big baby. She is weighting in about 160 and would love on a fly if possible. I also have my brothers kids over and friends kids over and Kappa, My dog loves them. KEEP the dog. We let her sniff the newborn baby of my friends a few times and then she was ok with it. Now that baby is almost a year and Kappa and the kid loves each other.

We have a big dog but keep him away from our baby until he gets a little bigger. He will look at him and sniff him every once in a while but the dog really doesnt show any interest.

I don't have a big dog, but I know people that do have big dogs and have had children and usually you take the baby blanket from the hospital or some clothing and give it to the dog so he can get used to the smell of the baby. And then slowly introduce them. I have heard that dogs are actually very protective of the baby, so I wouldn't get rid of your dog at all. They will probably be best friends   btw your dog is beautiful!!

I've always hear that the bigger dogs can actually be really protective of the baby. I have a german shepard/chow mix, and a rottweiler/ boxer mix. I was told to bring a blanket home from the hospital with the babies smell on it, so the dogs can be familiar with it before you bring the baby. I'm not too worried about it. I think my dogs will be fine.
BTW, I love your dog. Big dogs are my favorite!!

I have 2 pit bulls and they LOVE Landon.. All they wanna do is kiss him and lay near him. I was a little affraid of how they would be before he came. But I wouldnt trade them for any other dog to be with my son.

I have 3 dogs and 1 kid with 1 on the way.. My dogs love my son and my son loves them.. Of course you gotta be careful dogs can be clumsy around little kids...

I am planning on keeping her, and thanks everyone I think she is beautiful too!! she is the biggest sweetheart!! She doesnt seem to pay any attention to my cousins new born unless he cries. My dog is just really attached to me so my family is just afraid she will be jealous.. I hope she will be fine
