1 week old and constipated..solutions?
posted 18th Aug
my lil man is now 1 week old and we switched to formula at day 5, and now he's been constipated because of the switch, any suggestions on how to get him to go, he is now throwing up most of his feedings because there jsut isn't room, but yet he's starving, .. poor lil guy,,,,, he passes gas like crazy and burps alot, and pees fine, just no bm in 36 hours.
any suggestions would be great,
I have been rubbing his belly and bending his legs up .. and letting him have some screaming moments cuz when he's mad he grunts and pushes more... but not sure if there is anything else i can be doing.

Try karo syrup in his bottle. My Dr. suggested it for Bayleigh. He also gave us colace because it wasn't getting any better. Then one day her body got used to the formula and she's doing fine without any help. It just takes a little bit for them to adjust. Good luck, hope everything comes out ok for him.

He may not be able to take the formula you have him on. Another brand may work better.

You might want to switch to another formula. Also, did you stop breastfeeding all at once? Usually, they say it's a good idea to switch from breastfeeding to formula gradually (drop one feeding every few days)...if possible.
Rubbing his belly might work. Also, bike pedalling his legs. I guess you're doing those things already. Gripe water is like magic. Oh, and my understanding always was that as long as the baby is burping and farting, things aren't that bad....at least the air is getting out somehow. Plus, don't formula fed babies poop less often?

I used the karo syrup. Just about a teaspoon or so in her bottle and a few hours later she went!

We went through this exact problem with Gabriel! We took him to the doctor, they gave him enemas, one doctor even decided to stick his finger up there to widen the area (needless to say, we did not go back to him!). Finally, we switched to Similac Sensetive and Ventaire bottles. He has been fine since!

I think I probly can move him to Enfamil Gentlease, but I'll ask the doctor tomorrow... jsut glad he went today, ... cuz he gets too ful and vomits all over...

I know he didn't have a bm for 36 hours+ ... then I started massaging his tummy and pushing his legs, .. and finally had a bm, but it was hard lil balls (tmi) and it took him 30 minutes of grunting and screaming to get it out, so i know he is having trouble... and his lil bum gets all red and sore from it...
I know that's no fun for him, so i'm hoping ot figue out someething to help him having more ease with his bm's

Well no matter if his poop is or not he is ADORABLE!!
I hope it all "comes out" okay!
