Maternity leave experience

For all the ladies out there with kids please tell me, what exactly did you do while on your maternity leave? how was it and how long of a leave did you take?

I catered 24/7 to a newborn, and slept and ate when I could   I took a 2 month leave, but it was unpaid.

i just started my maternity leave and i'm losing my mind the baby isn't here yet so i have nothing to do but clean and sleep and sit here on BG all day!!!!

I don't start my leave until my due date or until I have the baby whichever comes first. But I want to spend as much time with my children as I can. It is only six weeks, butI really want to make the best of it. My husband and I have been discussing my not going back to work, but since he just started his own business, we are holding off until about six months after the birth of the baby. So I will be back after six weeks, but I am planning to leave after the new year.

Thats how I felt when I first went on my leave and now I got my hands full lol! Don't worry soon enough you'll be eating those words haha

How did you prepare for an unpaid leave? im in the SAME situation. i really need some advice on this also if you could give me any tips/pointers. please......

Really I didnt... I was high risk, and asked to stop working 7 months pregnant. We had to move in with my dad unwil I was ready to work again. The onyl advice I can give you is save-save-and save some more. Cut your costs. Downgrade your phone plan, and cable. You won't be watching TV too much after the baby. Also if you have a cell phone, cut back on that too. Go down to only the necessities.

Try breastfeeding, and cloth diapers, to cut down baby costs for the weeks you wont be working. Even if you only do those things for the 6 weeks, it will save you a TON. Get off brand everything you can. Pinch pennies, use coupons. Thats how we survive  

I absolutely love being on mat. leave. Actually, I stopped working two months before my son was born (I got put on short term medical disability because of the swelling), so I haven't worked since the end of January. It's awesome. Before my son was born, I spent my time doing projects around the house (we moved the day I started my leave). Now, I take care of my son.

Some of my projects:
-I painted the nursery (look at my album if you want to see it  )
-I painted downstairs (I'm creating a photo studio/dark room)
-I go to fruit u-picks because I'm stocking up for the winter (my freezer is getting nice and full)
-I've gone exploring in the neighborhood (zoo, museum, parks, city hall, etc.)
-I'm trying to learn how to cook better (and I'm trying to learn to enjoy it)
-sewing
-gardening
-mowing the lawn once, sometimes twice, a week (and it's way too damn big)
-this week I'm going to teach myself how to do linoleum (because my future photo studio doesn't have anything on the floor....)


So I've been busy. Oh, plus I have a business that I'm trying to run (or not let on that I'm not really focused on it full-time because I have a baby).

Thanks that helped a lot. well i guess i only have 45 more days to save! wish me luck. my bf is giving my 800 toward my leave so thats gonna help a bunch. now if only i had a car!!!
