re: how important are prenatal vitamins?

posted 17th Aug
Have you been to the Dr yet? They will prescribe some, but taking OTC ones are better than none at all. I don't see why they'd be that much different than the prescription ones.. shrug

I've always been told the vitamins (Other than folic acid) are more for the mothers benefit as the abby will take the nutrients it needs and if your not getting enough, then you'll suffer, not the baby. Vitamins made me sick so I just took folic acid and made sure I ate really healthy. I took extra calcium around 24 weeks when my teeth and cramps got bad and I felt better almost over night. I don't know if this is accurate but all tests have shown my bub to be fine....

Have you seen an Ob/Gyn?

If so, didn't they write you a prescription?

I never had them with my first 2 babies and they are perfectly healthy.
i think if you eat right and look after yourself then you dont HAVE to have them
.
I took them the first 3 months with this pregnancy beause i was sooo sick and wasnt eating right.
Your baby takes from you whatever it needs.

Here in australia they dont perscribe them and its really up to us if we wanna take them
Just my opinion is all

That's what I was told as well. And I heard the Folic Acid is most important in the first trimester also.

The folic acid is THE most important one to take. I just feel like if you can give your immune system any possible boost, why wouldn't you? I take them before bed every night. I never forget.

They make One a Day prenatal vitamins with the DHA capsule that are a HELL of a lot cheaper than my prescription Citra-Natal ($50  )
