I found a lump Updated.....
posted 17th Aug
My daughter just came back from her dad's this evening and was scratching her head alot. So of course I checked for the dreadedlice. Luckly, none were in sight. What I did find though was a lump right behind her ear. I have never noticed it before. I even asked her if she fell or someone hit her in the head. She said nope. That's her newfavorite word this week by the way. So I called up mymom and now I am worried. She said the only reasonsshe couldthink of a lump being there are all signs ofserious things. So my question everyone, is can you think of a reason for itbeing there that isn't something serious? I am scheduling an appoinment tomorrow. Just looking for some other things that it might be. Thanks.

It'll be nothing but just ring the doctor or emergency room and see what they say. Sitting around speculating is easier but will often lead to worst case scenarioes and freak you out.

I have a lump behind my right ear. According to my mom I've always had it. It's just cartilage or something like that. She took me to the doctor's to have it checked out and I guess they said it was harmless. I hope your daughter's lump is as harmless as mine!

True, that is why I will schedule an appointment in the morning. I was just looking for an explanation that will put my mind at ease for the night.

you going to think I'm dumb. .BUT I have these two" bumps" on the back of my head and they itch sometimes. I have had them since birth and the doctor doesn't know what they are. .has she always had them?

I have a lump behind my left ear, and I've had it for as long as I can remember. Just consult her Ped. tomorrow, just to be sure, but I'm pretty certain it's nothing to be worried about.

Thank you everyone. It is reasuring to hear that some of you have something simular and it is nothing to worry about. It is bad enough that is starting kindergarden tomorrow. Just an over worried mommy I guess.

swollen lymph node My sisters got inflamed when she had a bad tooth but could be from a minor infection

could be a swollen lymph node. I know they are generally in your neck and arm pits but, that's my first guess. I'd wait a day or two just to see if it goes down before calling your dr.

It could also be some type of cyst (my sister had one on her head before). Totally harmless but definitely something you should show your doctor. I'm sure it'll be fine. Keep us posted!

Does she have her ears pierced? I have had a lump behind my ear like since I can remember. And it swells up more when I wear earrings. WhenI ask friends and family, they tell me the same thing. Let the Ped know but I wouldn't make yourself crazy over it.

where behind the ear is it? Is it down by the softer spot behind the ear? like near the back of the actual squishy lobe part? If thats where it is, sounds like its just a swollen lymph node.

Thanks everyone, I got her an appointment tomorrow during her lunch hour. Today was her first day of school and I didn't want her to miss that. The on call nurse said it could be just a swollen lymph node, or a cyst like several of you mentioned. The nurse did suggest that we get it checked out right away, just to be on the safe side. I will update everyone tomorrow after her appointment. Thanks again.

Well I took Rachal in for her appointment today. It turns out that her lymph nodes are just swollen. The dr was able to show me several others that were protruding. She has a minor infection most likely just a virus. So I am beyond relieved. I had a friend who lost her daughter to cancer shortly after having Rachal. The first sign was a lump on her head. They ignored it and a few weeks later she began stumbling, and stuttering really bad. By the time they discovered it they only gave her a small chance at survival. Saddly she lost her battle. On the up side it was good we went in becasue I found out her asthma meds. aren't working very well so they upped the doseage for her preventative. Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and input. And letting me vent. My biggest fear is having something wrong with my babies and not being able to help them.
