posted 17th Aug
I heard in an article that babies who do not have enough tummy time have speech problems later on.
Is this true???
My baby hates tummy time and i still put her on her tummy every day!
but she wil scream and scream and scream.
Its frustrating but i dont want her to have speech problems!!
what should i do?

i dont know how one woudl be related to the other. i can see no tummy time, therefor it takes longer for them to roll over or hold their head up or whatever, but speech problems? that sounds like aload of bs to me

my kids both would scream bloody murder during tummy time so I stopped it...neither of them had speech problems...and my daughter generally can talk under water with a mouth full of cement soooo...LOL at what they said...Dont trust everything you read or the kids will end up wrapped in cotton wall... They will be fine

Sounds likea bunch of BS to me! My daughter HATES tummy time - she will bury her head within a minuteand scream bloody murder when I put her down. Her pedi told me that as long as she can hold her head up when we are holding her, not to worry. He said that one of the worst thing we could do is force her to lay there when she doesn't like it. So I will lay her down and the second she starts to fuss - tummy time is over!

I don't think I ever had tummy time when I was little (mostly because the back of my head is creepishly flat) and I have had no problems with my speech. I was actually one of the brightest kids in my entire family (including cousins etc).

Katelyn absolutely hated tummy time and she is an amazingly good talker. She said 9 words at 11 months and over 200 by 15 months. Now she talks better than some of my friends 3 and 4 year olds, so I wouldn't stress about it too much.

never heard of that...it just means the baby may be late to roll over. I wouldn't worry about it....tummy time will help prevent a flat head though and it may help minimize that weird patchy baldness infants temporarily get

I haven't heard of that...my doctor told me to lay her on her tummy to encourage her to start rolling over and lifting up her head...she said just to lay her on her tummy everyday and let her stay there until she starts really screaming about it and then pick her up...she said that everyday she will be able to stay a little longer....but she already likes tummy time (well for about 10 minutes lol) But i wouldn't believe that at all...i could see if you don't talk to them and interact with them then it would lead to speech problems but im sure your baby will be just perfect-=0)

All my kids hated it too...and they would just smack their head onto the floor in protest worked everytime LOL... I would give them plenty of nakie back time though and they loved it

I'm late but I'll throw my two cents in anyway

I have no clue if the two are related but I can tell you how I get my kids to do tummy time. I lay on my back on the couch or thefloor and lay my baby on mychest. Talk to your babyor shake rattles to encourage baby to lift their head. Counts as tummy time and both of my kids did this without any complaints even though they usually HATE tummy time on the floor. The other option is to place them on an excersize ball (obviously hold onto them) and let them lay on there a bit. These were bothrecommended by a physical therapist I worked with when I told them my daughter refused to do tummy time without screaming.
