re: Depo Shot...

posted 17th Aug
I loved depo at first- purely because of convenience.

But then I began to hate the stuff. I gained a lot of weight. Suffered from depression. Had no period for almost 3 years. Stopped taking it in Oct 06, thinking I would get pregnant pretty quickly. I didn't get pregnant until Jan 08. It was a very long and frustrating period for both me and my husband of wanting a baby and not being able to get pregnant.

Since coming off depo, I finally stopped gaining weight, but havn't been able to take the added weight off.

I will never again inject this stuff into my body. I plan on getting Mirena at my 6 week PP visit. It's got all the features in birth control I'm looking for-- minimal side effects, convenient, cost effective, and can be removed when I want another baby.

Oh no... I was off of it for a year and a half before I got pregant. It just makes me nervous to think that I might have just gotten lucky, and that it might be difficult for me to get pregnant again...

The Nuvaring never came out for me... I guess it all depends on the shape and stuff of your "area"   I've heard of it coming out before, but it's not really a big deal, you just clean it off and put it back in... My fiancee also said that he never felt it while we were having sex... but who knows, i'm sure it's different with everyone.

I don't have any experince with the depo shot, but I used Mirena IUC. It was Great! Light periods that faded to nothing. No huge mood swings every month. And I wore it for3 years before deciding that we wanted to TTC again. It only took 2-3 months to get pg. The EASIEST birth control I have ever experienced.

Wow maybe I'll really have to look into that... Is it big procedure for them to put it in you or is it easy?

Supposed to be easy. The nurse practitioner will be inserting mine at my 6 week visit. She said it takes less than a minute.

I was going to get implanon, but my insurance doesn't cover it and I would've had to pay like 1000 bucks. That's why I picked the Depo. Cause it costs me $3 a shot with my insurance. I guess I'll give it a go and see how I like it, but from what I've been hearing I don't think I will. I got preggers on the pill, IUCs scare me a bit, and the nuvaring just freaks me out. I don't like the idea of shoving something up there that doesn't need to be. lol. But I had to do something soon cause my hubby comes home on leave from Iraq and I DO NOT want another baby this soon. haha.

For those with Mirena, have you had any problems with it falling out. A few peopleI know went in for checkups and it was GONE.

That could happen with any birth control though... There's nothing really you can do to completely prevent it,other than not to have sex at all,and weall know THAT isn't going to happen  I wouldn't worry about it at all

I know. I'm a worry wart to begin with, but after being preggers and giving birth during a deployment, I really have no desire to do it ever again.
