Stripping ;] ......the membranes!
posted 16th Aug
At my next apt I will be 37 weeks 4 days..if I ask my doctor to strip my membranes will she think I'm loco or will she do it? I don't know when they usually offer to do it..or if they offer at all & you have to bring it up???? All I know is I want this kiddo soon. I'm miserable & my doctor said the last visit that he's healthy & ready (it's just a lonnnng waiting game!)
Did you have to ask?
Did they do it that day or schedule it?
Did they offer? When?
thx <3

I didnt ask they just did it with me when they were checking to see if I was dialating and I was 40 weeks.

They can only strip your membranes if your dilated anyway.
It cant hurt to ask though

My doctor didn't offer it until you were dilating and at 39 weeks. She didn't want to try and force out a baby that wasn't ready.

with my first, i got mine stripped. I just kept begging the doctor to induce me. He would always laugh at me and tell me that there was no reason to induce me. And then one day he said he was going to check me to see if i had dialated, he checked and kept talking and then i started SCREAMING! He stretched my membranes! After he told me why he did it, i loved him! LOL And then every appointment after that i asked him to stretch me again.

Yep most good docs wont do it until you are 39 weeks/ Plus you need to already have some dilation and effacement happening. If your cervix is too long they cant do it and if you are not open you cant have it done.
I dont have anything against it at all. I just say wait till 39 weeks
Good luck!

You really don't want to do it unless you go past due. It opens you up for a risk of infection. Also if your water breaks accidentally the cord can slip out first and then you would need an emergency c-section. Try sex and nipple stimulation. Also you can drink raspberry leaf tea and insert a gel cap of evening primrose oil (with holes poked in it.) before you go to bed at night. All of these things can stimulate labor and not hurt you or your baby. Trust me....I'm right there with you. I completely understand but it's not really worth risking.

i've been at a 1 for two weeks (hopefully by my next apt it will be more!) i'll just ask. what's the worst that could happen?

I was only at like 1 or 2 cm when my doctor did it and i wasnt past my due date. My baby was healthy and fully ready to come out. I was healthy. I have never heard about a chance of the umbilical cord fallig out but who knows, maybe it could.
