re: putting baby on a schedule?

I am a huge pregnancy/new baby book reader! You should pick up a copy of "What to expect the first year" it tells a lot of information about the new baby. I was actually reading last night. It said that most new babies will wake up for them night feedings, but it should slow down around 2 months. Just let your baby tell you what he/she wants. If they sleep all night, let them. If they wake up for a bottle, than just let them eat. Every baby is different, so honestly you are the only one that can say when your little one will no longer wake up for them night feedings.....good luck hun!

I actually have that book, I just haven't had anytime to read it yet   I breastfeed her and everything I've read online says I have to wake her atleast every 4 hrs. It makes me sad to wake her because she just looks so peaceful and of course I would like to sleep longer lol

Lol, I know what you mean about time. If she is sleeping from 7pm to 9am than I would wake her up at least once for a feeding. My daughter goes to sleep around 8 at night, and usually wakes up right before 12 for a feeding. She will then sleep until 6ish-7ish. Like I said, it is what you as her mother thinks is best. Also, since you are BFing than you may want to wake her up every feeding because you want to keep your milksupply up! I could never get my daughter to latch and my milk supply deplenished (sp?) even though I was pumping  You are so lucky that your little one is doing good at BFing!!

Quoting Mara:“ ha! schedule? you mean for sleep or what? babies do what they want. if you're talking about sleep, ... [snip!] ... you start doing quiet things, dim the lights, nurse/feed before bedtime etc. they adapt quite quickly if you're consistent.”
Yeap, I started doing that with Sam when she was 2 months. First I would change he diaper, put pj's and sing her a lullaby, then take her to my room with the dim lights and lay her in bed by 9pm and just nurse her till she falls to sleep. Now, she HAS to be in bed by 9pm with the boob, or it's WAR! She doesn't sleep tru the night though, still wakes up several times a night to eat.

what we did was from birth, we did a "routine" when she started acting sleepy.  We read her a story, a chapter of the Bible, then said a prayer, all while I nursed her.  At about 3 months we added bathtime before all that.  We've not been doing it the last few weeks as she's been teething super bad and her room is tore up for painting, so she's co sleeping, but she does know that the routine means bed time.  Once she was 3 months we also set a time for it to be and she eventually started getting tired at that time because she knows those things mean nap!

Mine too! Well unless your BFing, because of your supply. If I were still BFing I would pump instead of waking my baby. I am sooo glad Allie sleeps all night   Makes mommy a happy camper!
