She Fell/Very Worried

posted 16th Aug
I'm a worrier by nature. It's what I do. But last night, Aubrey was in bed with us and I guess my BF fell asleep with her in his arms and rolled over in the middle of the night, turning his back to the middle of the bed. And as he rolled over, he took Aubrey with him and she fell off the side of the bed, onto her stomach!! And I didn't wake up, because he scooped her up the instant she started crying and left the room with her. But he didn't know that you're supposed to keep a baby awake if it falls to monitor for concussions and things, so he calmed her and let her go back to sleep immediately!

So now I'm super worried because she's been almost unusually fussy today... and I don't know if I just THINK it's extra fussy, or if there might really be something wrong. She did respond to me when I made the tongue "raspberry" noise, which is something that she's been very interested in for the past week.. so that's good, I think.

But since she landed on her stomach instead of her back, I'm more worried about internal injuries than head trauma. I really don't know if it warrants calling a doctor or not... what are some major symptoms to look out for?

Any clear fluid coming from her ears or nose?
Throwing up?

She is probably fine, but I would recommend not co-sleeping for that reason. (not trying to start anything, so please do not think that is what I'm doing) I was just stating that this is the reason why I would not let my child sleep with me because I would be afraid of this happening.

No clear fluid, but she did throw up this morning (I'm told.) BUT I don't know if that has to do with her falling, or the bottle that was used... because it was an Avent bottle, and she's thrown up three times before and it's always when she eats from those bottles.

have you noticed any bruises or bumps on her head? If so just make sure that if there is a bump that it is coming out and not going in. If that makes since.

I'd still call the doctor, hon. just to be on the safe side. I am sorry this happened. I know you are scared. I'm really praying for ya.

I call my pedi any time their is question or worry. There is no reason not to, that is what they are paid for. I would definitely call. And to the poster who said not to cosleep, there are safe ways to cosleep. Cosleeping is NOT bad, there are safe ways to do it, and letting the baby sleep on your chest is not one of them, but it was an accident and Im sure won't happen again.

I would still call to be on the safe side. I did the same thng with my son, I accidently fell asleep on the couch. and was awaked by him crying on the floor. The doctor told me what to look for. Vomiting was one of the things they said to bring him if he had any. You can never be too careful when it cones to our little ones

the things to look out for is pinging in the eges ( one pupal bigger than the other) also a tempreture. Also vomiting. not normal vomiting bur projectile vomiting. If there is any head trama or injuries these things will happen.

Also the frontal lobe as well. The hole in the front of the head where the bones are not fused. If its different from what it normally is,

As for internal injuries you should be watching out for any swelling on the body, bruising or blood in the urine or poo.

Also her feeding if that changes and if she is listless (floppy baby) and not responsive.

If you are worried at all just take her to a Dr. They will help to settle your concerns,

buy babys are pretty resiliant. The reason as adults we hurt ourselves is because we tense up and that causes a lot of injuries but because babys just dont react and they do not tense up so its harder for them to hurt themselvs. but if you are concerned just pop of to a Dr

If she didn't hit her head, call the doctor to ease your worries, but I am sure she's fine

And on co sleeping, you CAN do it safely, just take precautions.  We use bed rails so that Lydia won't crawl/fall out of bed.  They were inexpensive and she is 7 months old and has NEVER fallen out of our bed.  We also put our shams and decorative pillows on the floor around the bed just in case she manages to get on the floor...
