Baby with G-tube will not bottle

My little guy has had a g-tube for 4 months because he aspirates milk. The doctors are letting him bottle 15-20cc five times a day before his g-tube feedings. He was doing well and crying after I would take away the bottle. This last couple of weeks I can only get him to eat 5cc or maybe none when he bottles. There has been no change in the type of milk I am giving him (breast milk). I am scared because I want to someday get rid of the g-tube. Why is he not bottling?

maybe it is scratching him when he bottle feeds or irritating his throat. im so sorry your little man needs a tube, mine needed one for a couple weeks in NICU and kept pulling it out..good luck momma...maybe ask the doctor about moving it every so often so it doesn't scar as badly or something... im sorry im not much help good luc kand keep us updated

Hi, my son has a g tube too for 3 months now. Im afraid he hasnt be allowed to bottle since though so i havent faced this issue. I guess being G fed for a long time means they get used to not feeding. Perhaps its causing him reflux and is uncomfortable for him? i know when we were able tobottle, reflux (internal acidic rather than actual puking) would stop him from wanting to nipple sometimes. Id talk to your doc and see what they say. If they are planning on getting him off the tube then they should probably do another swallow study to see what the difficulty is. I hope they sort it out, the sooner the better when i comes to getting off the Gtube for sure. Good luck mama  

It may also just be he's a boy, and lazy as all heck, but smart enough to realize the tube is easier!! That's apparently the real reason behind "Nipple Confusion", we thought Khym was doing this (and at first may have been) but (I'm such a bad Momma ) it was actually that his Hydrocephalus made it extra hard/difficult/painful to Breast feed, over bottle.

I would talk to his Dr. I thought it was laziness, but my daughter has reflux. Once they started Prevacid she started eating better!

She is talking about a G tube, not an ng tube. The G tube is surgically inserted through the belly, its for longer term use rather than the littleNG tube that all preemies get.

Is it possible that he's just not hungry when it's time to feed him? My daughter had an ng tube for a month because she wouldn't bottle feed or breast feed.However, when we finally convinced the doctors and nurses to stop making her eat every 3 hoursand wait until she's hungry she finally started eating.
