Working in Childcare

posted 15th Aug
Ok, so when Faye is about 2 months old, Im going to go back to work and school.
Jesse (my boyfriend) will watch her at night while Im at school and my mother said she can too. But during the day, she'll need to be in a daycare.
Im really nervous about leaving her, more so since it will be with people I dont know. So I was thinking about getting a job where ever she goes to daycare.
So I need information/advice about people that have done something similar.
First, do you think people will be more or less likely to hire me because my daughter will be there? (I ask this because most places offer free/discount care for workers so they might veiw this as losing money)
Im 33 weeks, should I go talk to different places now or when Fayes almost ready to go into daycare?
Any information about this would be great

I would go ahead and go. LOTS of mamas work at the daycares where their children go. I worked in daycare for several years and I didn't have a child at the time but I'm pondering doing the same thing myself

I would get out there and at least talk to some people right now. I'm hoping to do the same kind of thing soon also and there is no way i'm leaving my child in a daycare if i'm not there. sorry, but just can't do it. lol. or you could even see if maybe you could work by babysitting someone's kids or something and then take your daughter w/ you. i'm looking into that too.

yeah I was thinking about looking into a nanny agency but I might need a more stable paycheck

my stepmom did that. she worked part time in a gym nursery and part time in a church nursery (shes no where near religious) and that way she got to take my brother along and it didnt cost her anything. I also have friends that worked in the preschool and daycare that i worked at that had 1 or more kids in the program.

I would go and talk to them. I worked in a daycare before I was prego and I'm going back to work next week. We have two baby rooms that are combined together but split with a counter and they are letting me work in the baby room my son isn't in so I can still see him all day!

I worked at a daycare for awhile and they hired me knowing that I was going to have my son there as well. I just wasnt allowed to teach in the same class as him due to favoring him over the others. I dont work there anymore so obviously that isnt an option anymore. but most places dont care, they just wont let you teach in the same room as they are in. and after awhile they even sometimes discount the cost of childcare.

I'm pretty sure they cant not hire you just b/c you're not religious....I'm not even totally sure they can ask.....i don't know for aure if that is right though. However, if you do work ina church one, your child will be learning christian stuff and you may be asked to pray or provide curriculum that is christian based. So as long as you don't mind....

my step mom wasnt asked to do any of that. it was babies and purely for daycare. she was not a "teacher"

The one I worked at, we prayed before meals, sang christian songs, had bible stories, etc. I was only part time too.....I suppose every church and every program is different.
