Painful Braxton Hicks
posted 15th Aug
HAs anyone else experienced painful Braxton Hicks contractions? I have been having them since i was 20 wks and they were painless. But today they've been extremely intense and painful unlike anything else ive felt. kinda like a charlie horse in my belly and when it was over my stomach was sore to the touch. Is that normal or has anyone else experienced that?

I don't know... i've been having more painful BH contractions, sometimes even regularly for an hour. If it's real labor, they'll get more and more painful. I knew mine weren't the real deal because they hurt, but they didn't get WORSE and eventually they stopped. I would time them for a while and see what happens. Call your doctor if you are concerned, though, even if it's just to put your mind at ease. That's what they're there for. I just didn't want you to get too excited if it's not the real deal. I've been there!

Even if they don't put you into labor, you could still be having contractions. Your cervix is just dilating slowly.

I have been having Braxton Hicks all day. I figure that is what they are. They so painful that I can't take it but they do hurt.

I havestarted having painful BH contractions too. Mostly in the evening and at night. Feels like the whole belly tightens up REALLY tight. Hard to breath. Hardly walk. They have been gettng progressively worse this week, but go away in the morning and through the early afternoon.
So what happened? Are you feeling better, or is Baby here? Did they send you into full blown labor or go away? Worried about you, Mama!
Best of luck to you.

i'm expericing the same thing right now. i was having BH a week ago and they went away after i went to the ER. i laughed and said going to the doctor scared the baby and she stopped playing games. then they started really bad again 3 days ago and then the day after i was actually having the pain every 10 to 20 minutes (regular contractions)i started to freak because im only 23 weeks (24 tomorrow). i was overnight in the hospital and they stopped, im not dialated and now i am on minimal activity and i havent experienced them since. but i have a feeling this is going to be the norm until she pops out in december or even eariler......i was told to just basically lay low and get a lot of rest off of my feet *yeah right my job as a cheerleading coach and chasing a 16 month old is really going to allow THAT*............but for the health of the baby just keep and eye on them and keep in close contact with your doc.

I have been getting what feels like a shooting pain that starts at the bottom of my belly and goes to the top, or from side to side about once every other hour. I figure they must be BH but if they are real they are so far apart it doesn't matter yet!

I am nearing 31 weeks with my first child and I stumbled upon this thread and this particular topic was the reason I decided to join this site. I just wanted to say that I am glad to hear that there are others who are having these painful cramps. I started noticing them about a week ago and I've had probably 5 in that time frame. They are extremely painful and I can tell my stomach tightens up. It lasts for about 60-90 seconds and pretty much stops me dead in my tracks. There is no rhyme, reason, or pattern and since they are obviously not regular they obviously are not true labor pains. It did concern me because I always heard that BH contractions were painless....after looking here and digging a little deeper on the web, apparently they do get pretty intense. This makes me pretty nervous about going into true labor because I know these episodes I am having are painful as hell!! Good luck to everyone else expecting =)

This past week I was getting what I thought to be BH contractions at 26 wks, but they were very painful and regular. So I called my DR and he advised me to go to L&D to be monitored. Turns out they were real contractions and they had to give me trebutalin shots to stop them. Needless to say I was in the hospital for 3 days till they stoped completely and sent me home on bed rest. I ended up in the hospital 3 days later and same thing, this time they sent me home on strict bed rest (only up to the restroom and for meals) and trebutalin pills to keep the contractions in check.
Real contractions are real painful and if you get 4 or more within the hour you should go get checked. The hospital also told me to time them and if they're 30 seconds or longer they're real.
Bed rest is not fun! That's for sure, but the health of my baby is very important and I want to make it to a healthy week for the baby to be delivered!
