posted 15th Aug
I didn't really know where to put this but it is an issue and i am preggo so here we go...
I was diagnosed bi-polar at age 11 and have been on and off medications for it because i'm pregnant i'm not able to take anything and up to this point i wasn't having any problems but today my depression is worse then it's been in a couple years and i dont know why it's really frustrating i'm supposed to go to a going away party tonight for my fiances friend but i have desided i can i feel like curling in a ball and dieing...Has anyone else felt like this while preggo??? If so what didyou so to help yourself out of it???

p.s.-i'm also worried if i dont get better i'll have to go back on meds and not be able to breast feed.

I'm currently going through the same thing. Though I'm not bi-polar and don't have to take medications, I was diagnosed with severe depression due to pregnancy. The hormones my body is producing are basically not working with my body. I feel how you feel right now almost everyday. My mom is bi-polar so I know what it's like and I'm pretty much like that. One day, I will be smiling and SOOOOOOOOO happy. The next day, I'm insisted that my baby is gonna die and cry to the point where I throw up. My dr, just like yours, won't give me medications. So I've just had to learn how to control it. As silly as it sounds, when you get worked up, try breathing methods. Most doctors would KILL me for saying this but try being alone. Go in your room and chill out. Maybe listen to music or watch a movie. Do something that will take your mind off of your emotions. It's easier said than done. I'm still struggling with it but those are just some of the steps I've taken to make things better. You are almost done with your pregnancy, so hopefully, your hormones will balance out, you'll feel better, the meds wont be needed, and you can breastfeed just like you want.

I hope I helped.

Well, I know people tend to get more depressed during pregnancy anyway, especially if they have or had another disorder. I was diagnosed with major depression and I've been fine for a little under a year until recently (I'm 30 wks) and I've felt it coming back sometimes worse than before. But anyway, I know they have meds you can take during pregnancy and while breastfeedingyou'd just have to ask your doctor about it. The only other advice I can really give you is to just do the things that make you feel better... If its being alone then be alone sometimes. It'll make you feel better andbe better for your baby if you're not depressed all the time. But if you ever just wanna talk to someone who knows what you're going through, you can always send me a message.   Good luck with everything.

I also have Bi-polar disorder. Somedays I don't care if the sun rises and sets. Otherdays, I'm so excited that I can't stand it. Then there are days where I'm convinced that I'm going to miscarry or that it's going to be stillborn thus scaring myself half to death. I told my doctor and I was told that I couldn't take any meds either. I wish that I had some advice to give, but I don't. I write. That seems to help me out sometimes.

I'm so glad you posted this. Although I have never been formaly diagnosed with any disorders, I've known that there was something wrong with me at an early age. My parents refused to believe anything was wrong with me and I wasn't allowed to talk about it. I believe I'm bipoloar because some days I wake up and am so positive and others, I just want to cry all day. I'm really worried about this effecting my baby and I'm worried that I won't be a good mother. I don't know what to do. I don't want to go on meds but I can't figure out what I need to do to make a change.
Reading your post really helped me though. Thanks.
