Smoking Visitors

Hey everyone. I was just wondering how you dealt with visitors to your new baby that smoked? Everyone in my family smokes cigs, and I know they are all going to come visit me and want to hold her. I am going to ask everyone to use hand sanitizer before they hold her, but the smoke smell is stuck in their clothes and lingers. I would rather them not smoke before they come over and hold her. Is that asking too much? I would preferher not be around that, especially since neither me or my b/f smoke.
Any input is appreciated!

There's nothing wrong with that. I am going to be incredibly cautious with other people being around my child after she is born.

This is an issue for me too. All my in-laws smoke, and my husband and I don't, but I don't know how to approach the situation with them

Just be honest. And say "Hey I don't want my baby smelling like smoke, so please make it a priority to not smoke before you come over." My family smokes too and I have already told them all this, as well as if they ever babysit they are not allowed to smoke even if they go outside!

That would be nice if ppl would do that. deff make them wash! I think
ppl should be respectful and not smoke or smell like it while around a baby

I make them wash their hands up to their elbows and make them wear a differnt shirt that they HAVEN'T smoked in to wear while they hold the baby.

I know it helps when you put ti by the front door the smell from it helps the smoke

Just tell everyone that would be coming to visit not to smoke prior to the visit. If they have a fit about it just tell them you are concerend for your baby and if they don't want to respect your wishes they can wait to see her when she gets older.

Nope! i totally agree! i already told my labor coach that she has that job of telling them! I have NO problem telling them that I want NOT ONE TRACE OF CIG SMOKE AROUND HER AT ALL, WHATSOEVER. with their lungs being that new, and their first breaths, I absolutely wont allow any of that being smoke or 2nd hand, or even someone's clothes! I know what you mean. My fam smokes too, AND my grama smokes in her house! So baby wont be over there, and I dont know how I feel about everyone holding her.

It's up to you how you want to handle that. She is your child, and they should respect your wishes. I know exactly what you're going through, my whole family smokes. Make your wishes known and stand by them!

If they want to see your baby, they'll get over it. It's your child, your house, your rules!

Mine will be offended too. Reason why, (we've already gotten in arguments about this) is that THEY smoked around their kids, and their kids didnt die.....

Tough shit. NO SMOKING AROUND MY BABY.

If they want to see her, they cant. If the cant smoke, then, maybe we'll see ya at christmas or something!!
