school open house

I just came home from the school, we had open house tonight. It was so strange. In Raeghan's kindegarten class, at 27, I was one of the "old moms." I got respect from the teacher. In Leah's 5th grade class, I was one of the young ones that get the looks. You all know the look right? Well I actually got it! I'm her step mom but they don't know it. Even the teacher treated me different than she did the other moms that were older. She showed them respect and was chatty as hell, and barely spoke two words to me when I introduced myself. I've not experienced this before! Trinity starts 2nd grade and her teacher is AMAZING!! I'm so gonna love this lady!

awwwe haha. my mom had me at 27 and my brother at 35, so she knows what it's like to be the "old" mom haha.

oh yea I know the look. I get it alot though. The pediatricians and the doctors in the ER all give it to you and they even through in talking down to you like you dont have an education. Im assuming I wasn't supposed to finish high school? Thats when I speak up and throw my "big" words around to make them feel stupid and they usually change their attitude. My son's kindergarten teacher did it the first time we talked and the rest of the year she was fine

That's okay,it's a fairly normal thing.I am a young mum I'm 22 and have a 4y/o, 3y/o and a 3rd in the oven... We also have my 10y/o step son live with us and he happily calls me mum Which always gets the looks at school and things like that. Although alot of people are used to us and our situation now and I even take an 1hr art class at the school once a week now! I think the key is to get yourself as activly involved as possible!!

That is so funny. I'm a 1st grade teacher and I'm 33 and pregnant with my 2nd. Majority of my parents are usually much younger than myself. I'm considered old compared to them.

LOL!! I'm 27 and I get the looks ALL the time, mine are going into 4th and 1st. But they really hate me because I'm VERY involved in the school, I volunteer there ALL the time and am in very good standing with all the staff! So the other parents are always looking weired at me, like because I'm young, I should be dumb.... *giggle* I just shrug it off...
