posted 14th Aug
I have a 22 Month old Boy, that dosen't stop talking... well mor like jibberish talking. He says some words that I can understand, but im scared that they might have to put im in speech be-cuz he is not takling as much as I would like him to be.

I know he is well in health and in everything else.
BUT
Should I be worried?

Well, just because he's not talking the way you would like doesn't mean that he is lagging. His mind probably just moves faster than his mouth lol. My nephew is 6 and still has a hard time communicating, but is doing fine. Just give it time.

My neice was almost 3 before you could understand her! It was awful she would talk a million words a second but you couldn't understand any of it then one day we were sitting there at the dinner table and had a whole conversation with us that we understood. We were amazed.

I'm going through the same thing basically with my 21 month old. He says a few words like momma, dada, whats that, and a few things that I cant really understand, but he's definitly not saying as much as he should. He communicates so well though what he wants with pointing and gestures and stuff and like 80% of the time, I know wat he wants. They say boys just take longer than girls. I've told his perdiatrician about it though and you should too. He wasnt too concerned, but he said if he isnt saying more by the time he's 2 then were gonna have to take him to speech classes or something. They have this thing caled early intervention here and you should look into it and see if you have it where you live. I'd definitly tell his doctor though and just keep practicing with him. I sound out almost everything that we see and attempt to read to him, if he'll actually sit there or not rip the book out of my hands. Thats all you can really do for now.

sometimes it takes while. just like crawling, walking,etc..

and talking is a technique that needs to be learned as well.

if there is something wrong then tell the Ped but it seems like everything is perfectly fine.

my daughter is 21 months old and she talks ALL THE TIME!!!...problem is, you can only understand 15% of it...lol. She'll say, "mommy?" and then babble to me what she wants to say and i have no idea what's coming out of her mouth. She communicates well, though, and she able to tell me what she needs, even if it's by pointing or something. Also, a friend of mine has a son who didn't start saying anything (except maybe 10 words) until he was about 26 months, but when he started talking, he picked it up really fast. I wouldn't worry about it as long as he has his own way of communicating with you...he'll get it soon.

How do you feel about teaching him baby signs? I have taught my daughter how to sign so things that I dont understand she will sign and say it so I can get the sounds she is using for the word. Here is a site to help you learn signing to teach him if you would like. http://www.aslpro.com/
It has helped me so much with my daughter to under stand what she wants. Also its nice because my uncle, his wife and their 2 kids are deaf so she can ask them for something and they under stand her.

my son is turning 3 on the 24th and he starts pre-school in september b/c he is delayed in speech....he talks all the time but when he is in conversation his words just fall apart and its very hard for strangers to understand him. i contacted early intervention when he was 2 1/2 and told them i had a concern. they had a hard time finding a speech therapist so it took about 2 months b4 he was seen. he's only been seen 4 times by EI and she thinks he's a delight. but i am glad that he is going to preshool early so that way when he starts Kindergarten he will be on the same level if not higher then some of the others.
the child study team actually said his language is well within limits, but his pronounceation is where his problem is.

My daughter was supose to gowhen she was born just so they could monitor her development for certain reasons, but we just never had the time and I really wanted to do it.
