Breast pump Questions-*UPDATED*

posted 14th Aug
Has anyone got a breastpump thru their insurance company?? Caiden's pediatrician wrote me a prescription for an electric pump because he's jaundice. I finally foung a place 50 miles away that has a pump in stock that is in my network. But they will only cover the pump as long as it's 'medically necessary' he's not going ot be jaundice as long as I want to breastfeed. I was just wondering if anyone had a similar experience and if they got to keep their pump the whole time. I bought the evenflo pump at walmart and it works ok but not as good at the ameda I used in the hospital. I'm thinking of buying the lansinoh and saying heck with the insurance company because I don't want to only get it for a month and have to take it back plus I have to pay a $50 deposit! Is it safe to buy a pump off ebay??

I'm weird about that kind of stuff, using secondhand pumps. But I guess you have to do what you have to do. I think a breast pump is a really good investment, so it's something to kinda splurge on. I got one at one of my baby showers.

I don't think its safe to use a used pump. But if its a BNIB on ebay I don't see the problem with it./

I would use the hospital grade one now to establish your milk supply. The other pumps will not do that!! You can usually rent them from the hospital or I thought you could rent them for free from the wic office if you qualify! Getting pumps off ebay is contoversial so I won't comment!

I would only buy a pump off eBay if you know it has never been used. I've been told the only pumps that are even considered safe to be "re-used" are the hospital ones. It is not recommended to share or borrow a pump. I bought a Bailey's Medical Nurture III. The Deluxe is what I got & you can apply for a $50 discount for low income~ pretty much anyone can get it. After the discount my pump cost me $110, but they have a regular pump that is about $70 after the discount. Here is the Bailey site:http://www.baileymed.com/

if you have a perscription for it that gives them the idea that it is medically necessary. also, if you are goign through a med supply company who bills insurance for you, have them file it as a latching problem, which IS a medical problem   definitly get medela or ameda.

We don't qualify for wic. We do have a place here in town that rents the medela. Has anyone used the lansinoh pump?? It's 5 star rated on walmarts site.

OMG! That's a great idea!! He wont latch, I've been to 2 lactation consultants and nothing has worked. Right now they are billing it as Jaundice but his pedi will write for the latching problem! THANKS SO MUCH! I wouldn't have thought of that!!

I considered that one~ It has high reviews on alot of sites, but after reading the reviews for the Bailey I decided to go with that one instead. It actually is the same pump as a lansinoh, but I have yet to use it   When my pump came the outside packaging said Lansinoh Breat pump, so I believe it is the same pump, but maybe a little less expensive.

Hey I think I know where you live! I think I've been there! lol I just called my insurance company and they will NOT cover my pump! My hubby's insurance is going to cover it. Isn't that sad? I pay for my insurance every payday and they don't cover hardly anything!! I am so dropping them at open enrollment!! Hubby works for the state so his insurance is pretty good. They are going to cover it for the Jaundice reason and the lady I spoke to said they normally don't question it again so I should be okay. I just didn't want to drive 40 miles to get the pump and only get to keep it for a few weeks when his jaundice is gone! I want to keep it until I'm done breastfeeding!! They consider it a rental until they have met the purchase price of the pump, then I get to keep it. I guess we will go with it and go from there. The lady at the pharmacy told me I had to pay a $50 deposit but the insurance company told me not to. This has been such a hassle! It would just be easier for me to buy one!

If you are having problems with him latching your milk supply is going to be low so you need a hospital grade one which is what they will give you with a prescription! If you don't your milk supply won't increase try also taking fenugreek it's all natural and helps increase your supply. ALso if you like dark beer non alcoholic dark beers like guniess sp? will help increase but alcohol decreases it! I just went htrough all this and didn't know it and was so depressed when it all didn't work out! My daughter BF just fine though wierd how there all diffrent! It's hundreds of dollars to buy a hospital grade pump but after your supply is established the pump in styles are nice I've never tried the baileys though!
