I went all natural with my first, you can do it. I would just say that you want to be sure to know the stages of labor and what's going to be happening to your body. If you know what to expect, you will be less fearful. Know a few breathing techniques to get through your contractions too...I took classes but didn't necessarily use the techniques they taught me, I found my own way of breathing. Just remember, billions of women have done this before you so if you have your mind set on it and there are no complications, you can do it! Don't be scared, just take it moment by moment an KNOW that it will end.

I agree, it wasn't as bad as I thought! Once I started pushing the pain from the contractions pretty much went away. I was planning on an epidural but I dialated from 4cm to 9cm in less than 40 mins and I didn't have time. I did have a shot of nubain around eleven thirty and I delivered at 3:35, it only lasted about an hour and a half. Took the edge off the contractions, they did give me a second shot of it but it wasn't effective, I still felt it all. The only thing is they told me NOT to push when I felt I needed to, it's hard not to push when ur body is telling u to! I pushed for an hour and my little man finally decided to come out, but his head was measuring 42 weeks and I was 37 weeks. They induced me because he was already 8lbs 1oz. I'm so glad I didn't get the epidural now!

I didn't want to take any medicine and tried my best not to but.... The pain of the contractions just got more and more intense for me and i ended up getting an epidural.Although i waited last minute to do it i thank god it was available cause all the pain was gone.It was funny cause i soon as i got my epidural with my first daughter in less then 5 minutes it kicked in and i was like telling the nurse if i could brush my hair.LoL... i mean it was some good shit..My boyfriend still teases me til this day and tells everyone about it.

Everyone is telling me not to go natural because they had an epidural and said it was so much better. BUT I don't handle needles well, and I really don't want an IV. So I am looking to go natural, but my question is, I have seen on TV where she goes natural but still has an IV, do hospitals MAKE you get one? If so, I might just stay at home, haha.

There is a book you can order online called "easier, shorter, and safer birth." It's an acupressure book and it has gotten many good reviews. It helps with pregnancies over their due date and also has pressure points that your partner can use on you when you're in labor. I have heard that they significantly reduce your labor pains. It is $29and you can open the book up with adobe. It's definately worth looking into. I am purchasing this book when my husband gets paid tomorrow. Good luck

pain killers do the same to me- Id vomit every time!, if you still want the epidural ( wonderous drugs that they are!) as the nurse for a ZOLFRAN odt pill, tell them your prone to the nausea. They gave me one, it dissolves in your mouth and then I was just fine. ( do it before the epi, 1 or 2 hours. they last 6 hours at a time) then after delivery I only took motrin cause I thought vicodin would make me sick and i was just fine with the motrin! good luck either way! but if you decide for the epi- get a zolfran.

yeah they do because they give you fluids. Youll be so distracted I dont think youll notice! just dont watch, and the epidural didnt bother one bit! I was so wanting it, that dude was my new best friend! try it with out but dont be a hero if you want to change your mind! no one will think less!

Yes   But you can do it!!!!!! Contractions (to me) felt like a cross between really bad menstrual cramps and diarrea cramping ranging from mild to x1000. Towards the end in transition it is almost unbearable, you can't speak and I couldn't open my eyes...I had to go inside myself and just get through it. The good news is, when a contraction is over, you feel fine....until the next one   Then when you get to push, the contractions don't hurt at all! Hopefully I didn't scare you, but that's really how it is/was for me.

Yes when you give birth you automatically get an IV put in your arm.
