Should I say something?

posted 14th Aug
SoI think my husband started smoking again and is hiding it from me. I was a heavy smoker for almost 14 years and he was a smoker too but quit a good year before I did. During that year, he gave me so much shit for smoking (always outside, never around him after he had quit) and would constantly rail on me everytime I went out for a cigarette. When I found out I was pregnant I quit pretty much right away but had a horrible time doing it. Now that my husband started a new job and is on the road alot, I thin he has started again. He was driving my car for a few weeks and when I got in todcay, the cigarette lighter was plugged back in instead of the phone charger which is always in there. Also, one of the ship captains gave all of his crew 2 cartons of cigarettes as gifts (my husband works on oil tankers and ships) and he had put the cartons in the trunk, saying maybe he would sell them or give them away to someone who smoked. Well today I saw one of the cartons had been opened and a few packs missing. One pack was laying under the front seat opened with a few missing.
I guess what would upset me the most is that not only is he lying about it, but after all the shit he gave me for smoking and making me feel terrible and knowing how hard it was for me to quit if he IS smoking again, it makes him a total hypocrite.
I don't know. It sounds so stupid.
Is it even worth bringing up and asking him about or should I just let it go and as long as it's not around me than oh well?

I would talk to him about it, I don't think it's fair to you that he gave you so much crap for it and then probably started up again.

My ex husband did the same thing.

I went out to his truck and found the wrappers every where.
I grabbed some, went inside and said; "Tell me you do not smoke!"

He was like; "I can't do that."

So I threw them at him and said; "It would be all right if you didn't lie about it and hide it."

Ugh.

He was a jerk though.

I just made it clear that he could smoke, outside the house.

That he shouldn't of lied, and then I let it go.

I think that is what bothers me the most...the lying. And the funny part is, it actually kind of help me when I smell it because it makes me feel like I've had one or something to that effect (obviously I'm not inhaling deeply around everyone I see smoking lol.) So even if he kept it outside I wouldn't care as much,. But don't lie about it.

oof. that is tough. i smoked for almost 20 years, i quit 2 yrs ago so i know how hard it is to quit and how ANNOYING it is when someone gives you so much shit about it (my husband used to do the same thing...and then when i quit and wa  psycho because of it he would actually tell me to go have a ciggarette..i wanted to freaking kill him)

you def have to talk to him about it cause if you don't it will be in the back of your mind. the sooner you get him to quit now the easier it will be for him so just say, listen, i know you've been smoking again, believe me i understand how addictive it is, but we have a baby coming now and let nip this in the bud NOW.
i have a great book i could recommend to you....

You know, that may be the best thing b/c once I deliver I know how tempting it will be for me to start up again. I was one of those people who LIKED smoking and had been doing it since the age of 13. I think even if he is nearby and smoking I know I will start again no doubt.

What book???

the lying sucks but have you actually asked him and he said no? or he just didnt tell you. because in this case, he might not have wanted to tell you cause he knew how hard it was for you to quit and you know how it is with smoking. you don't think you are actually a smoker again when you just have a few. and then it happens!! aaaargh. i miss it so much. lol
and then i remember what it actually is. fucking poison i was inhaling into my lungs killing myself and poisoning my body, robbing it of vitamins ...why would i want to do that??? ciggs have us so brainwashed its crazy.
thats why the book i read worked. i re-brain washes you to hate them.

i wouldn't be that bothered by it, he is probably embarrassed or worried that you'll find out after all the grief he gave you about stopping after he stopped.

when i started smoking again after my 2nd pregnancy i was embarrassed to tell my family or smoke near them cos when i was pregnant i was like "im never gonna smoke agian etc" and then to tell them i started again i felt a kind of failure.
i know the lying is worrying you but its only about smoking, its nothing major.

The Easy Way to Stop Smoking
by Allen Carr

amazon has it.

that with a buddy to help remind you when you get those insane cravings....it really works.
i LOVED LOVED LOVED smoking too. but one day i just got really scared of getting lung cancer young. my grandmother had it when she was in her 80's and that was my impetus. it still took a good year after that for me to do it but feeling that fear really helped too.

the thing the book is good at is reminding you how insane those cravings are because what are you really craving? why do you really like cigs? and how its a lie that they do anything good for you. the reason you need them in the first place is because of the ciggs you've already had. its really really good and i would really recommend it. it tells you not to quit till you are finished the book, but i got halfway through and COULD NOT smoke any more. that was it for me.
