right now i'm covered by my dad under the military insurance, Tricare prime ..since i'm not 18 nor married yet. but i was wondering if you have to give birth at the military hospital?? or can you give birth at any civilian hospital(idk what to call them..lol)?? and if i do give birth at the military hospital, how will people be able to come visit, if they arent in the military or have a military i.d???

my appt. isn't till tuesday and i'm tired of waiting. lol cus i always seem to forget to ask when i do have an appt.

i am in the air force and at my base they dont even do my ob care on the base. i go off base for everything. but when i had my son i had ob care on base and delivered off base. you need to ask them at your next appt where you will be having the baby. but if you do have the baby on base the only way non mil can visit would be to have visitors passes to get on base. hope this helps.

I believe you can still give birth at a civilian hospital, they take the insurance there.

with tricare prime (which i have) u are only covered at civilian hospitals if its an "emergency" otherwise its a military hospital all the way, as far as family then need a valid drivers license, and proff of registrariona and insurance or their car,and a short explanation of where there going.

Unless it's an emergency, you should check a civ hospital first to see if they take that ins.. If you don't check and they don't, you might get slammed with a bill

it depends, i know here you go to the military hospital because they have an OB/GYN and maternity ward and all that, but some hospitals don't have that so they send you to a civilian hospital. i know you can choose to go to civilian but you have to switch to the other Tricare (i don't remember which is which sorry!) which you pay a co-pay and all that.

and visitors can get a guest pass at the gate, you don't have to have a military id to get into the hospital.

oh, thats it for visitors? i thought it'd be more complicated..since they seem to be getting stricter now-a-days! lol thanks for the info!

I am in the same situation, and the way I understand it is it really depends on if the base has an Ob or not. The base I am at now does but I will be moving soon and they do not so I was refered of base to a civilan hospital and that is where I will give birth.

nope not exactly, basically they can get on, it just takes a little while longer, they get pulled over, asked questions, car info, and then you usually get a pass good for 1 day. It can be a pain in the butt, but thye can get in

and yes the other Tricare, I believe Tricare Standard is the one where you can go anywhere but you pay co-pays. Tricare Prime is the free insurance so thast why they usually make it limited to "their" hospitals. Here in Hawaii were 5 military branches and we pregnant woman "all" have to go to this main Army hospital, it really sucks and is overcrowded but thats the only place that can see us. Im an asthmatic and my normal doctor and obgyn at our Marine Base hospital cant even see me, as sons I got pregnant I was limited to that Army hospital and only that

aw that sucks. i hate going anywhere that's overcrowded! the hospital here gets pretty crowded too, since it's the only military one here. and sometimes i wait almost up to 30 mins after my scheduled appt time just to be seen (on the busy days)..and plus they lost my medical records! which got me pretty mad cus i was already waiting forever..lol

I don't live anywhere NEAR a base. I've only been to a military hospital with a g/f of mine when she got sick during our vacation to Texas..(Ft. Hood) You can see and physician and go to any hopital anywhere as long as they accept the insurance..(All hospitals should take it) But you will need a referal from your PCM to see an OB that isn't affiliated with the military, but accepts TriCare..
