I hate dresses!!!

I don't know what my problem is, but i can not stand for my 5 yr old daughter to wear dresses or skirts. She ALWAYS wants to wear a dress, but i am constantly discourging her to wear them. "oh you have PE today at school, you'll be playing on the playground..." I usually feel bad and finally give in but I dont know why i have something against dresses.... are there other moms out there that feel like me??

When my aunt had my cousin, she tried to dress her like a little rocker...little black t-shirts and stuff, and she TOTALLY discouraged anything pink or girly.

My cousin, like a typical little girl, insisted on wearing dresses and girly stuff. She grew out of that when she was still little...she's almost 20 now, and she is far from being a girly-girl.

I say, go along with what works for now, and it'll all resolve itself in time.

i hate dresses too, but i don't discourge my daughter from wearing them. i just make sure she has shorts on underneath. when i was little boys use to look under our dresses at church so that was my reason for not likeing them.

I am having a girl, but I don't think Ill have her wear dresses unless theres some leggings or shorts underneath...becasue little girls climb and play and I have seen on many occasions a girl at a playground with her underwear showing quite a bit. So yeah something underneath will be my rule unless its for a special occasion or something like that.

Those skort things are good I think for children in you are uncomfortable with her wearing skirts ... Maybe just put shorts under the dresses. I am assuming that the whole underwear showing is a problem?

Let her wear what she wants. As long as it isnt revealing or something. She is just expressing herself. If you are worried about boys pulling her skirt up or something just have her wear a pair of shorts underneath.

I LOVE dresses! My daughter wears a dress like everyday. And she is only 5 months! lol

I say let your daughter wear whatever she wants (obviously within reason!).

But I totally agree with the wearing something underneath it rule. It is very tacky to have any under garments showing. Not to mention, you never know what kind of creep is out there trying to look.

my5 year old is sucha tom by...however she is a tom boy in a dress! She LOVES dresses and skirts, and I agree with not sending her to school in them b/c she plays so rough. But if I didn't let her wear them she would boycot school...and also I really want her to become her own person with her own style and not have me block who she wants to be. So we compromise. We buy her "sporty" dresses. Things she can wear little white paif of tennis shoes with so that way she can play and do PE but still wear what she wants...and we also bought some of those little cheerleader undies covers for her too to match with her skirts so that way if the dress ends up over her head while playing football   she will be okay.

it is hard bcuz you might not like certain things but you have to let her wear dresses. she has her own personality. you just have to let her live her childhood hun. just make sure to have her wear shorts underneath. that's what i plan to do for my daughter, there is a lot of creepy people out there.
