I am basically asking if there was a medical reason such as reflux to start it so early.

No medical reason. Several of the women in my family asked when I was planning to start. I told them that the Dr.'s usually don't suggest doing that until they were 4mo old.
More than 5 of them said they started thiers earlier and it really satisfied thier babies.
After pondering it, I decided to buy some. When we had a family gathering at my house on Monday, I started inquiring about it, so we tried it.
Prior to trying it, they said if he turns away from it, then it is too soon. If he laps it off of a baby spoon and seems pleased to carry on with it. So we did.

Yeah cause all of your family members are dr's right?
I am not trying to be a bitch I am really just trying to understand why people just can't freaking wait? I mean really all of these Dr's are doing studies showing that it is better to wait, because of allergies, childhood obesity, type 2 diabetes etc. I really just don't understand.

Actually, several of them are Dr.'s. No obiesty in the family, nor do we have any diabetics.
My child will be on an organic diet for his rice cereal, his baby food and when he starts eating what we eat.
We do not purchase junk. No sodas, no candy-hell even a juice box is a "treat".
I believe it is perfectly safe. Everyone is different.

I completely disagree with giving a child under 4-6 months old anything other than breastmilk or formula, but its your kid.. Good luck with that.

That is your opinion. He will be just fine. I would never give my child anything that would harm him.

I started both of my children on cereal and baby food early. My son started spoon feeding at 8 weeks old, and my daughter at 3 months old. My children were hungry, and since I chose to feed them, they would sleep well at night. My daughter is 8.5 and my son is 6.5 and neither one have diabetes, neither are obese, neither of them have food allergies (and we've been all over the world, eaten all kinds of food, and never had a problem) they aren't allergic to other things either. Neither of them had colic, and as a matter of fact, my daughter had a reflux that went away when she started eating real food to suppliment her formula.
My doctor okayed my decision, and one thing I never got used to was other parents (and my friend's parents) who would look at me with disdain and judgement because of my decision of my child's best interest, but what I couldn't understand was why my friend, who's baby was the same age as mine, would suffer her child through being hungry and not feed them sensibly like I was, just because she was afraid of going against the all knowing American Academy of Pediatrics? Every child is different, their needs are different, and I think it should be left up to the parent for what is best for their child.

My mom raised two children in the hills of Hazard Kentucky (don't think that makes me an idiot, because I wasn't one of those kids, and I'm not a retard hillbilly) but at just a couple of months, people are known to feed their children real food like beans, peas, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes. My sisters are both healthy as horses with no complications in their 30s.

8 weeks off a spoon? Seriously? I have a 7 week old that is no where near ready to have cereal off of a spoon.. He shows no interest in food what so ever. I didn't give my daughter cereal until she was 6 months old. She was in no way starving because we weren't feeding her. She never even took more than a 4 oz bottle.

I wouldn't have given him a spoon if he showed no interest, but the first time I offered it, his tounge worked it out, because thats their natural range of motion. But then he saw he liked it and wanted it in, so with the next spoon, he started pulling it in. He was just the kind of kid that needed bigger servings. He wouldn't nurse because he was insatiable. He was on 8 oz bottles with his cereal/food at 8 weeks. That's just the way his appetite works, sometimes he wants to eat everything he sees, and then he'll go a stretch where he eats a minimum of food that he can get away with. He's also got a sensory processing disorder, so its kinda normal for him. Doc says he's a picture of health, and isn't overweight at all, not even close. He's 6.5 and going into size 6 pants this school year. Right on track. I guess it is just a matter of respecting how every little person is different, because they can be REALLY different sometimes.

Mine is the same way-very healthy and growing. I am not force feeding him by any means.
Some children are ready sooner than others.
