"Mental Retardation" is not a bad word, when used to describe someone or something you think is bad it becomes another thoughtless hurtful word. People with mental retardation are not bad, their condition is not bad, the prejudice and discrimination to people with mental retardation is BAD…and WRONG!

If they boycott this movie then they might as well boycott Family guy. That show is way worse when it comes to the mentally handicapped issue than just using the word retard.
But it's still funny and I will always watch it.

When I hear the word "retard" I don't think of my son...people around me still say that, in reference to something they think is "Stupid"  ...though I don't think that's right, but i don't take offense to it, in reference to my child.  I'm talking about a movie that is using the word "Retard" in reference to a mentally hani-cap person (played by Ben Stiller).  

Botton line: everyone is entitled to their own opinion.  By all means, see it, that way you can see how NOT to act, who knows maybe you'll be just as disgusted as the member's of the DS society were.

I have a bunch of thoughts on all of this, but unfortunately I'm awful at putting them in a nice big paragraph togeather, so I will resort to point form.

1. I think The Ringer was VERY funny. There were some parts, while watching it, that I thought 'ooh maybe this is going too far' but in the end, I felt it taught a very nice lesson. I don't believe it was making fun of mentally handicapped.

2. I don't have T.V (Ok I do, but I don't have satellite or cable..lol. Just Xbox. haha) so I don't know anything about Tropic Thunder. I can't say a whole lot on it.... I read the site, and from the fact that they are apparently selling t-shirts for the movie stating 'you never go full retard' leads me to believe that a lot of stupid, immature people will buy these shirts.. However as for my opinions on the movie, I don't feel like I can state much of one as I don't know what the movie is really.....

3. I have dial up internet (Thanks Bell, for not providing high speed to people living 2 minutes out of town. Asshats.) so I did not watch the video the OP posted... I can't comment on that... ha ha.

4. I think it SUCKS that the site mentioned elimination of the word 'retard'. I understand what people use it for. But what about stupid? Or dumb? Slow, stunted, delayed, simple-minded, dim-witted, primitive?
Are we going to ban all of these words? I know people use the word retard to insult people (You are retarded!) or an idea (That's sooo retarded.) But you can use MANY other words in leu of retard(ed). (You are so slow sometimes.) (That's a very simple-minded idea.)
If people seriously continue 'eliminating' words, we're going to be left with 'the' 'apple' and 'is'..... (Yeah I know, it'd be retarded.)

I love Family Guy, but I think that that episode went alittle too far.

I don't know awhole bunch about the movie, but I will admit that I probably will still go see it. The word retard doesn't bother me, it's the context in which it is used. I say something is retarded more often than I'd like to admit. I don't think that the word retard should be taken out of our vocabulary, I think that people should be made aware of the ignorance associated with word. There will forever be ignorant people in my son's life, and you know what, there is nothing I can do about them. Lincoln is going to grow up being different, should people call him retarded? Of course not, but the only way to solve the problem is to help people understand Down Syndrome, and Autism, and other disablities with mental handicaps.

Iunderstand where those people are coming from, and I respect their passion for the cause, but maybe they should be out there making more people aware of how amazing people with disablities are, and focus less onone word.
