Infant Potty Training

posted 13th Aug
has anybody tried it? If I were going to be a SAHM I might, but since I'll be returning to school in2 weeks I just don't think I'll be able to because I doubt her baby sitters would be willing to put that much time and effort into it.

I agree that if you were staying home and it was your time and effort and that floats your boat, go ahead. Way, way too much to ask of an outside caretaker.

My neighbours practiced it with their sons - from birth - they were trained and doing it on their own when they could crawl - but its a cultural thing for them - all babies are trained from birth in the country they were from.

I haven't the time to try it - if I did I would have probably given it a shot .
I wouldn't ask an outside caregiver to try unless it was a sibling or parent.

Very cute pictures!!! Are you actually trying the method for infant potty training or do you just do that only at bath time?

I'm hoping to start right away with this baby. I didn't hear about it until my daughter(who is 18 months now) was6-7 months old. She didn't really care for being held over the toilet and we didn't have a potty chair yet so it didn't work out too well. I talk to another woman through e-mail who did EC(elimination communication) with her daughter and had sucess with it. I'm hoping we will do better if we start earlier.

just at bathtime, really... i dont have the patience or the time at this point to deal with him on the potty every half hour! LOL I am thinking about seriously doing it though within the next month or so.

I have heard that you could potty train an infant so you dont have to deal with diapers, dont know how well it works.

Hi,
here is a picture of my 7 month old. He has been pooping on the potty for 2 weeks now( all the poops), and peeing 2-3 times a day.I think it makes sense to get them used to it young. My mom hadus 3 kidspotty trained by 12 months old, and I plan to do the same with my son.
He likes sitting on the potty, and after 2 weeks he goes when I make certain sounds.

You have to tell me how you got your son to poo in his potty! My son is close to 8 months and takes random shits throughout the day. Its always a surprise when I change his diaper and I would so love to potty train him!!!

I just watch him very close. When I notice that he starts grunting, i put him on the potty, and he goes. He poops every other day, usually in the morning, so I know when to pay attention. I also try to put him on first thing in the morning, after he eats and after his naps for peeing.

How long did it take before he got the hang of it?

We are still working on it, but I have cought all his poops for the last 2 weeks. I think that the more often he poops on the potty, the better his association will be that that's where you poop. I don't stress it. If I have time, I put him on, especially when he's already undressed, like at a diper change.
Just make sure you have a good potty for him, where he can sit comfortably, and one that's not too big.
