BH or Not? Trying to get them to go away

posted 24th Mar '07
I've been timing contractions for about an hour and they are 5-7 minutes apart. Not too uncomfortable except for my back having a bad ache.

I need to know if it is something to pay attention to or not, so I thought I would try different things to see if they go away or lessen.

What kind I do that won't wake up my whole house? Taking a shower or bath is out of the question.

Thanks. Oh, I'm 36 weeks and change.

If they are BH then moving around a bit or just changing positions should help. For me I go on a walk around the block and they're gone.

I would love to go for a walk, but it's almost 2 in the morning! Maybe I'll just do some laps around my house (inside).

I think if they're that frequent, then they're not BH contractions. If they become stronger while doing stuff, they're really contractions. If they go away, then it's probably just false labor.

try Laying on your left side and dinking 2-3 glasses of tall water. If they go away then they are bh if they don't then wake someone up and go to the hospital! ASAP

Braxton Hicks are not regular like labor contractions.... The rule of thumb according to my doctor is that if they are 5 minutes or less apart, last for up to 5 minutes each, and last for 2 hours then you are in labor.... Hope this helps

I agree with this but my doc uses the one hour rule. BH contractions are not consistent and will change/go away with change in position/activity. if you were sleeping before, just try sitting on the couch, or maybe standing and rocking back and forth. If they continue to get closer together, call or go to L&D. Good luck!
