Stripped Membranes

posted 13th Aug
Hey! I just came in from the doctor and she stripped my membranes. It hurt sOoOoO bad. She said labor could start at any time, as much as 48 hours, to as little as a couple of hours. I'm just curious about any of you that had ur membranes stripped, how long did it take? I wanna hear some good stuff, because I'm 39 weeks and 2 days and sooooo ready to have my baby!

It started labor immediately for me, but they made me labor at home for a while.

How do you get your dr to do that? I'll be 36 weeks tomorrow and of course I'm not going to get them stripped anytime soon but when I hit the 38-39 week mark, how do I get my dr to do it? Do I just ask or do they offer?

They only do it if you are going overdue, in an unusual amount of pain, or have a complication that requires induction. Ask, the worse they can sayis no.

It is an optional procedure. You have to be at least 1 cm dialated.

The doctor puts a finger through your cervix and separates (strips)your bag of water (membrane) from your cervix. It hurts like nothing I have felt before, instant contractions.   It is 50/50 at inducing labor, and will not induce labr in someone who is not ready.

Nah, it's short lived and worth it. IMO. I just think it felt just like getting checked, which they do anyways....except maybe a TINY bit more painful than that.

With both of my kids, they stipped my membranes when I was 3cm...and both of them were born 2 days later.

I wish they'd strip mine at 37 weeks. I'd only have a week and one day left. It'd be worth a try to see if I could get Julian here! =] Hmm...I have a Dr's appointment tomorrow maybe I'll ask about it, just to get more info.
