Guns, Yes, No?

posted 13th Aug
How do you feel about gun control? Guns in general? If there were no guns would gun crimes decrease?

I feel, with the 2nd amendment not coming into play here, that guns should be allowed to continue being sold. Yes, people shoot and kill other people, but there are millions of responsible gun owners out there, myself included. Even if guns were made illegal, people would still get them.

Guns are guns ppl will use them how they chose but i dont think anyone has the right to take them away plus i live in texas everyone has a gun. Although we dont own one due to the children in the house but my dad did and my FIL does. I think its your right to have it. Legal or not ppl will still use them for bad purposes.

I was raised in a house with guns. We knew where they were and that we were NOT to touch them. We knew what could happen if we did. Neither myself nor my sisters EVER messed with the guns. As long as gun owners are responsible, accidents are not very likely. And there will be crime with or without guns. There are plenty of crimes, violent crimes, that are commited WITHOUT a gun every year.

In the words of Larry the Cable Guy:

Guns don't kill people but husbands who come home early do.

Seriously, though- I'm all for the right to bear arms, I think that licensing and control needs to be very strict and that it's an owner's responsibility to be smart about how they store their weapons, especially if there are children in the house. I personally wouldn't own one, but I wouldn't hold it against anybody who wants to exercise their right to.

Gun Control = hitting the target.

We don't have guns in our house because of baby, but daddy intends on teaching her to shoot when she is older. Her uncle already has a gun for her lol! He's saving it.

If guns were made illegal, a lot, and I mean A LOT, of hunters would be pissed. Even I like to go hunting every now and then. Guns aren't the only weapons used to commit crimes.

I would be the happiest person on earth if no one in the US had a gun beisdes the military and law enforcement. The HAPPIEST person. I know that will never happen, but I certainly would love it.

I think that we need to have more strict laws in place for the selling of guns (esp. at gun shows and from individual to individual) and that more intense background checks should be required. I also think that it should be illegal to have a gun in a house with a child unless it is locked in a safe. As in, you could get your permit to have a gun revoked if you didnt do that. Lastly, I think that NO ONE needs machine guns, semi-automatics, uzis ect. There is no need for those types of guns, and they should be illegal and taken off the streets.

As long as you are responsible then i see no problem with guns. You never know when something is gonna happen, or when you have to protect your family

A lot of people do those things, they are responsible with guns, our are locked in the safe in the garage, and it DOES take 10 days for the background checks before you can get the gun. I think I agree with the machine guns and things though. Those area little excessive

I see your point, but just to point it out... My dad's guns were never locked up. They were in his closet. My sisters and I NEVER touched them. We knew better.

Banning gun sales would only decrease the number of law-abiding citizens who buy guns.  Criminals don't really care about the laws...and it would make the black market for gun sales even more lucrative, even further jacking up the criminal element.  I don't know if I would ever have a gun personally, but if I felt I needed one, I sure as hell want to be able to get one.  Granted, I would want to know how to use it and keep it safely...

When I was a kid, may dad hunted.  He had guns in the house (never loaded, of course...he kept ammo locked up, separately from the closet where he stored the guns), and we knew never to touch 'em.  My brothers weren't even allowed to aim toy guns at people--guns were serious business, and nothing to play with.  We knew that guns were dangerous.  We had a healthy respect for how powerful they were.

It would be nice if there was nobody out there used them wrongly, but since there are people out there committing violent crimes, if it got to the point that I felt I need a gun to protect myself, I certainly want the option.

If guns were made illegal, than only the government and people who got them illegally to do bad things would have them...and frankly, Im fearful of the day that happens. I want to be able to protect myself should someone break in with a gun that they got illegally....Id be S.O.L. and so would my family.
Im glad that we're able to own guns. Even though I dont like guns, I'm glad to know we can still have one.

Not when you buy at a gun show or a private seller. There is NO waiting period, at all. That is how most guns end up on the black market.

There are many stories like that out there. Tons. But there are also many where a little kid gets shot in the head and the parents say "We told him not to touch it!" Therein lies the issue.
