That's true... sorry I blew up lol

I still think the waiting period is a good idea though for the ex-cons that aren't allowed to have guns... even bullets

Do you think background checks that look for mantally instability and past criminal records stop crime? I surely do.

I also do think that if someone didnt have a gun but wanted to go and shoot someone, they certainly would drive to a store and purchase a gun if they could walk out with it same day. I also think people would do that who were thinking of suicide. Are the numbers of people that would do that huge? I dont know, probably not. But if a 10 day period has saved even one life, then it is completely and totally worth it.

Jiminees, lol. We need to start reading ALL the posts before continuing on in anger, lol.

Background checks don't take more then an hour. We do have background checks, just no waiting period.

I know, that would be why I said they weren't. It was just the first thing that came to mind. To me, buying a gun is like buying a new outfit. I want to wear it now, ya know what I mean?

Its all good.

I just get excited when I get a new gun. I'm just a kid in a candy store, lol. So a waiting period is a personal inconvenience.

I do agree with Dev on the laws about private sellers and gun shows though. Because that is where the criminals buy their guns.

Oregon is severely lacking in gun control, if you ask me. We have no child access prevention law, no permits, registration or licensing is required for rifles and shot guns, there is no waiting period, and there are no permits, registration or licensing required for a handgun, unless you want a concealed weapons permit. I think Oregon's problem is that our only large city is portland. Better gun control is needed in multnomah county but with so much of the state being rural, it's near impossible to pass anything. I understand the conflict of interest, but something needs to be done.

This is why I don't understand the people who tell me I surround myself with ass kissers.

I can't debate with ass kissers!!!

Excuse my abstence. I am in a high-risk pregnancy and have been ill. Anyways..Guns aren't the problem. GUNS don't kill people, people kill people. Do you know that if someone whipped out a knife vs. a gun the person with the knife would most likely injure the one with the gun. Knives are far more dangerous than guns are. Here's a website to check out.

Why would people who were going to commit a crime buy a gun legally?

they wouldnt....duh

like I said outlaw guns and only outlaws will have them.

its the "law obiding" citizens that will have the hard time gettign a gun, the criminals already have them, or obtain them regardless of if they are nut cases.

Exactly! It's kind of like the illegal drugs. It doesn't matter how many laws you make to outlaw something ect PEOPLE are going to find a way to get them.

FYI it is VERY VERY VERY hard for criminals to purchase a gun at a gun show. Gun shows are filled with police and under cover police along with the National Back Ground checks that you HAVE to pass to be able to even purchase the gun.

Why does something need to be done? Is Oregon caught in the throes of a major epidemic of accidental or irresponsible shootings? Because nation wide our accidental shootings are at a thirty or forty year low, record low in fact, and our violent crime rate is at its lowest in a long time as well. What has gone up is media coverage of any incident involving a shooting. If it bleeds it leads you know. Anyway I don't understand why Orgeon needs specific child access laws when we already have Federal laws regarding children and firearms. Did you know that someone who takes a kid out shooting without explicit parental consent is committing a felony? Even allowing them to handle a firearm without parental consent is a felony, same one actually.

Please become at least passingly familiar with the laws regarding firearms before you run your mouth about how horrible it is that you live in a lawless land awash in free firearms passed out to children.

Seriously, what is wrong with you? Because I want state regulated laws, I don't know what the laws are? Guess what? It's ok for people to disagree! Not everyone has to agree with you. Just because you don't like my opinion does mean it's wrong. If this is all you're going to offer every time you post, why do you post at all?
