Too young or no?

posted 12th Aug
At what age would you leave your child alone, before school? Feed themselves, get themselves ready, get out the door and on the bus? Do you think an immature 11 y/o is ready?

She has a sitter, but mom wants to save that cash, which she can afford.

Honest opinions and or links welcome.

At 11 I did all those things you listed. I just needed a really loud alarm clock, lol.

I wouldn't do it.  Especially if I could afford to have someone get them ready and stuff.  That is just being stupid IMO.  Especially if they are immature.

I was staying home alone with my older brother in first grade (he was 10). Only after school tho...I was never good at waking up in the morning, even in high school. I started getting my self off to school alone when I was like 13...but I needed 4 alarm clocks. There were many morning I missed first period LOL

Haha.  I used to have to watch my younger brother and sister when I was 8 years old.  They were 7 and 4.

If you find them to be mature enough then do it. but if not then you know how it goes.
It depends on how you feel about it

I was doing all the things you listed at 9 years old when my mom had my littlest sister. However, I do not feel I was ready and I grew up way to fast. I wouldn't let my daughter stay home alone, feed herself, or get ready to go and trust that she'll be at the bus stop on time. No no no, that's just too much for an 11 year old. I missed a lot of school because I would always miss the bus and school for me started at 9!

Really I was the one doing all the "watching" I always carried our house key cause he would forget it and I was the one to make dinner (starting at the age of 9).

IT'S my friends daughter. She doesnt have the mindset to do that shit. I've known the mother for 17 years and the girls since she was born. Shes not ready. I'm pissed and the Sister/Aunt is pissed.

Depends on how long she is left alone if only for 30mins or an hour yeah prolly so i would just call and make sure she was up.

I had to get them both ready for school and everything like that.  Then, on some nights, my dad would go to the strip club and  I would have to watch them then.  I used to be so scared but he wouldn't listen to me.

I think that 13 is the age, they should do their own things, but 11 is still too small.

I think it depends on the child and if shes not mature enough then I definately wouldnt. We did start leaving our daughter at 11 but she is very mature for her age.
