sucking....

I was just wondering how many mommies with babies born at 35 to 38 weeks if they had any problem as far as there sucking refluxes??

No, Preston was born at 35 wks and5 days and the sucking was/is fine.

mY FRIEND HAD A BABY GIRL AT 36 WEEKS AND HER BABY HAD BAD REFLUX... SHE COULD BARELY LAY HER DOWN WITHOUT THE BABY SCREAMING HER HEAD OFF.

lol... what I mean is the sucking reflux... like nursing! 

The sucking reflux was perfect for both of my kids by 35 weeks. They were born earlier, but that is when it matured enough for them to go home. (34 weeks for my daughter)

did you nurse them??

No, my daughter never learned to nurse. My son started nursing at 32 weeks and was fully breastfed when he was 2 months old. (1 week before his due date).

oh.. thats good!!! I have read some of your posts on him being a preemie.. sounds like hes doing very well!!  hes a cutie to BTW

If I am understanding the question correctly, my girl did have a problem at first. She was a preemie so they introduced a miniature pacifier to build her sucking reflex. Tricks of the trade that they also taught me was to:
1) stick my finger up and touch the roof of her mouth
2) rub her gums with my finger
I guess this stimulates their sucking reflex. Also, make sure your baby isn't too warm and comfy when you're trying to feed him/her or she might be unresponsive.

yes.. they will be inducing me at 38 weeks if I don't go b4 then. I have a placenta abruption and a clot behind it ..... I have already gotten the steroid
shots b/c they thought I would deliver even earlier then this... I went in to pre-term labor at 32 weeks. my doctor is going to start scrapping my membranes next week as long as I don't have that group b strep??? I didn't have it with our son so who knows.... she could be here next week!!!

Well good luck! The sucking reflex develops at 32 weeks and is usually pretty set at 34 weeks. Hopefully you won't have any trouble =) And even better, hopefully you can go to 38 weeks!

My sister after two children had her third and was induced at 40 weeks, and he came out with his lungs undeveloped. He also had some other issues. I dont think there is any way to tell if they are going to healthy no matter how many weeks.

My Izzy was born on 4/17/08 and she weighed 1 pound, 7 ounces. I took steroid shots before she was taken by c-section so that really helped her lungs. She just needed to get over all the preemie issues: temperature regulation, brady scares, bilateral hernias, oxygen saturations, anemia (a few transfusions were needed) and jaundice (very common in preemies). Developmental taught me all the tricks for her sucking reflex because preemies do tend to have problems with it. I cant seem to get her to nurse, she loves the bottle more than my nipples so I pump for her and supplement with formula.
