The pay is decent, but you do not get the same benefits as the regular Army unless he is deployed or is assigned to work on base while an active duty memeber is deployed. If you check out the army websites they have a list of the benefits to joining the reserves.

My boyfrind did that. He didnt like. He had to go one weekend a month. and the pay wasnt that good. I think the most he made was about 300. He almost got to an e6 through. he was in the process of traning for it but..didnt have the time with full time college and a full time job. I also belive that you can still get delpoyed. Im not postive about that but thats what ive heard from some people. Maybe thats active reserves. My uncle joe did the same thing and love it. But he decided to get sent to iraq.Im not postive about how the miltary works yet. My boyfriend is actally signing papers to go back in on tommrow.

My husband is a Marine reservist. He works one weekend a month, 2 weeks Active Duty in the summer. If he is already employed his employer has to give him time off for this, and cannot penalize him for it. Whether he takes unpaid time off or uses vacation time is up to him and his employer. He usually gets paid within a couple days of his drill weekend. My husband was active duty for 9 years so he didn't have to go through basic training again, but I am assuming even for Army yours will have to go to basic training. I don't know how long for army.

No the benefits are not the same for reservists as they are for AD, so def. talk that over with his recruiter. Don't be afraid to call the recruiter yourself for any questions you have.

you can get deployed still.. my dad was active duty AF for 7 years..then went to AF reserves.. was doing that for 3 years then got deployed to saudi arabia [this was like.. 18 years ago lol.]

i need to talk to my b/f about doing this... i mean.. its extra money right? which we def. need.

I forgot to add, my husbands unit mobilizes every two years, so he will be active duty for a year in about a year or so. So make sure you are aware that they can go active duty at any time, which means they can send him overseas, or to a military installation here in the US. (which at that point you and your family will get full benefits as any active duty soldier and their family)

i actually think that he should go active but he is not sure if that is what he wants to do. He wants to join he just doesn't want to be bored with whatever they have him doing.

If you really want the benefits, Active Duty is really the way to go. To be honest haha. The pay isn't great with the reserves.

I say have him make a list of pros and cons for both. What does he do now?

he got laid off about a month ago becasue he cracked ribs and the doc put him on light duty during his probation period.

Short answer:
nothing. the job market here is awful so the only places that are really hiring are resturants.

Hmmm, I say go for it. Tell him to go for it! haha

Reason 1) Job stability

Reason 2) Medical benefits

Reason 3) Your house......paid for!

Reason 4) Everyone thinks the money in the military is crappy for what they do....I say yeah, it could be more, but if you budget right you can have a fantastic life.

Reason 5) Gives you and your family an opportunity to travel.

Only con.....(for me haha)......Your husband could be sent to a less-than-desirable place.

that is what i am saying and i wish he would listen. i grew up with my dad in the military and the regular pay increases the housing allowance the benefits the traveling i dont care about being in a crappy place i have already been to knobnoster, MO ( no offense to anyone who lives there and loves it) so i will be fine.
