Giving the homeless money.
posted 12th Aug
So do you ever give a homeless person on the street money?
I do, and some say 'Oh they'll just go buy alcohol.. they need a job etc etc'
I see some maybe they will buy alcohol.. but I'm hoping not.. I'm hoping they do really need it so I give it. I have seen one woman inparticular who would go on the train EVERY other morning with the same story about how she 'hasnt eaten in 3 days'.. she said the EXACT same speech each time. She even yelled at one man who denied her money.
But, like I said some do really need it.. so i will give them any spare money I may have. its hard to get a job with no address...

I don't have to give them money. They break into my house and car and take whatever they want. This is exactly why I'm moving.

I used to when I was little now if someone really wants money cause they are so hungry I will buy them something or give them some food from our office. We had a homeless guy who used to come around our office every other day so we started giving him donuts and muffins every once in a while when we saw him digging in the garbage.

I dont like to do it. There's a lot of people where I live that are actually pretty wealthy and go begging. I've seen like 2 at least. I dont get it.
I'm sure there are some who really need it, but I'd rather give them food with some money left in it. And a couple times, they didn't want the food. Still don't get it.

I wont give them squat. I dont care how hard it is, they can get jobs like the rest of us, or find a program that my tax dollars pay for to get assistance.

I don't. You never know who's homeless and who's not. Some people actually do it just to get money. I did give one the rest of my chips once. Foods better than money. Atleast if he wasn't really poor I just gave him a snack, not my money.

There is this one legged man who stands by the e-way. I always, always give him money. He is so friendly and he is hilarious! He is a veterian and says he can't find a job. I believe him, there are so many homeless verterians, and since he only has one leg I'm sure it is even harder for him to find a job. There are some people who you can tell are flat out lieing. There is always this man by the burger king near my house and he always says I need some change to catch the bus. Well like an idiot the first time I gave him like 3 dollars and then he pulls out a bike from behind a bush and starts riding... past the bus stop he was supposed to catch the bus at.
eta: the one legged man sometimes asks for food so I'll go buy him some I know he doesn't go out and get drunk

there is a guy here who dresses homeless and stands out all day then goes and drives home in his BMW and gets $300-$400 a day. I don't give them money maybe a mcdonalds card or some doughnuts but that is it.

I ususally give them food.
But sometimes I give change or a dollar or two.
Being from LA, I used to get scammed a lot so I became very hesitant.
You tend to get that way when you see a "homeless" person in brand new Nike's and a rolex.

i have given a little money a couple of times, but i don't make it a habit. however, i have bought food for people like that on many occasions. that way i know they're getting at least one meal that day...if they do choose to buy alcohol, i have not contributed to that, and i've actually HELPED them. irealize that many of the people we run across are scamming or are just too lazy to work...but there are some who are truly in need and honestly do not know how to help themselves out of the rut they're in. i don't want to miss out on a chance to help someone like that.

Yup we had a guy a long time ago that would park his car under a bridge and beg for money all day long and then go in his car and drive home.
He had an sign that said I'm hungry and had a different clean oufit every time I saw him when I would drive that way.

Yes and No! My sister works in Atlantic City and before I was pregnant would be there a few times a week. Well the boardwalk has havens of homeless people. Some have been there for years and get enough money to trade in all the change to get a $5 bill to put in a slot machine. If some are saying I am sooo hungry well then on the boarwalk is 100's of food outlets. Ill go and buy them some fries. etc.
