Clogged Tear Duct

posted 12th Aug
Hey everyone

When my baby was born she had a clogged tear duct and each day it gets worse and worse. She's 3 months old now and it bothers her so bad to a point that she can barely open her eye from all the fluid leaking out and pus. The doctor said to massage with a warm washcloth and he gave me ointment to put on but it seems to make it worse but definitely not better! They said at 6 months she will have to get a needle put in the open it if it doesn't go away before. Any advice or anyone been through this before? I greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

My son has that too, he's only 2 months and his doctor said to wait it out. I just keep cleaning it out so he can open his poor eye. Somedays it seems to be better then others though. I wish I had better advice!

my son has it too. the doc told me it will eventually go away as they get older the hole just isnt big enough yet. i put the ointment in his eye 3 times a day and they said it can last up to 9-12months. its really nothing to be to concerned about just keep itclean and do the masages...it will get better.

My daughter had it off and on from about 1 month to 6 months. It usually went away each time after I massaged the tear duct for a few days. Has the doctor showed you "how" to massage it? There is a certain motion and direction you're supposed to do it in to help "expel" what's clogging the tear ducts. It's like an "upward" motion.
