Feeding solids?

posted 11th Aug
Ok I was looking at the pictures for the contest for for the babies for eatting. Anyways I seen there were some babies eatting soilds other then cereal at like 2-3 months old. I was told not tell 4 months for cereal and 6 months for food. Although my sons almost 4 months and has had cereal put in his bottle due to reflex since a month old and hes now eatting it with a spoon once a day. My Question is when did you all start you infant on Solid food? I started my older boy on it at 6 months. Is it ok to start it alittle early?

Yeah I guess what scares me is the fact they just had a thing out the other day saying that kids that were fed solids before 4 months or 6 months (I don't remember for sure) were more likely to get diabetes as a child. I mean my son loves his cereal and I bought some ones for him to try I figured after his 4 month check up although I know his doctors going to say wait tell 6 months. Argh I don't know why can't things be the same as the good ole days like my dad always says We all lived and they didnt have all these damn tests and studies back then! Then again my dad thought it was ok for my son to ride in the front seat in his carseat! lol

yeah that was her htough.. i wasnt in a rush to feed jazmine solids... but i did start at 3 months... and the whole diabetes thing... i dont believe that. my mom gave me solids when i was about 3 months and i have no diabetes, or my brother. i think it all depends on your family as well. none of my family ever had diabetes

Yeah and I would think that would have alot to do with it. I mean when my oldest was about 4 months old they had him on Oatmeal in his bottles we had actually cut holes in the nipples because it wouldnt go through even the Y cut nipples. And my youngest hes almost 4 months and he don't keep anything down They told me hes allergic to Milk and Soy because he spits up alot they have him on nutramagen and he Throws that up I feel like I am feeding hiim just to see it again in 30 mins from then. I am just thinking starting solids would help him alittle more since eatting cereal helps but I don't think he really likes the fact that it tastes the same as his bottles and he would rather just drink it ya know. I guess adding alittle flavor to the cereal really couldnt hurt anything.

My son started eating cereal at 3 months. His doctor told me to give it to him twice a day because he was always hungry.. She also said he could have juice, but I don't give it to him.

I waited longer with my daughter, she was 3 months early.

I don't think I can they have butter and milk in them and from the Milk allergy they are saying he has I probably shouldnt chance it they even said jar food that has milk in it like the mac and cheese and stuff . Which if he REALLY is allergic to Milk and Soy and he don't out grow it I am going to be so screwed... Whats left for him to eat? Umm I don't think anything that don't have Milk or Soy in it other then veggies and fruit. Well I am sure there are more but not that I can think of at 2 am lol

i started my daughter on other solids (Gerber 1st foods) at around 4 1/2 months. She did great with them. It all depends on what signs your baby is giving you.

Everything I've read says that you should not feed any type of solids before 4 months, but ideally, you should wait until 6 months. The only exceptions, of course, are if the doctor tells you to do otherwise (and 2 weeks seems waaaaaaaaaaaaay too early where I'd be asking for another opinion). Also, from what I've read, there are different signs to look for to see if your baby is ready for solids.

I've started mine on solid foods (he just turned 4 months on Aug. 2). So far, he's tried rice cereal and yesterday I started him on oat cereal. Next will be barley and then I'll start introducing vegetables (peas, squash). And finally fruit. At the rate I'm going (3-5 days for each new food + plus after I've introduced the three cereals, I'll offer those again), he'll probably be close to 6 months by the time he's trying fruits).

My pedi told us we could start cereal at 4 months and after a week of doing that, we could start first foods. So Gavin eats cereal in the morning and a fruit or veggie for lunch.

Sorry - I wasn't actually pointing fingers at you or your friend  , I was just saying that 2 weeks seems really early (irregardless of who it is) and unless a doctor specifically recommended it, I wouldn't do it. And if a doctor did recommend, I would probably look for another opinion because the baby's digestive system is just not really ready.
