Grandma Arrested for Driving With Child on Roof

Authorities say a grandmother was arrested for driving around the parking lot of a Marathon grocery store with her 3-year-old child sitting on the roof of the car.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the Publix store Tuesday and arrested a 54-year-old woman after she was driving around with her three-year-old granddaughter on the roof of her car.

The grandmother was released from jail 15 hours later.

The woman said Thursday she would never let anything hurt her granddaughter. She says she was driving at "snail-speed" and holding the child's leg.

Authorities say the woman told police she was giving the child some air and letting her have fun.

She faces charges of child abuse. The child is back with her mother.


Can you believe some people these days...ugh! Thank god that the child was okay but ugh....just crazy.

I work at a department store in the mall.. I walked into the store breakroom the other day and the whole room was a buzz with a bunch of associates talking about one subject. So I sat and listened.

Apparently a customer ran into the store really upset and angry, saying she just found a 3 year old little girl crying and scared and alone in the parking lot, wandering aimlessly.

The associate called the managers, who then called mall security, and the customer called the police. All said people showed up, searching for the little girls parents/guardians, and comforting the little girl.

Turns out the guardians (i believe it was her aunt/uncle or something of the sort) were shopping in OUR store, having a grand old time. What happened is the couple arrived at the store, the three year old was sleeping soundly in the backseat of their car. Unwilling to wake her up and have a grumpy kid in the store, they LEFT HER ALONE in the car, Windows rolled up on a hot summer day in Michigan.

The kid woke up, freaked out, got OUT of the car and went to try to find them.
The police told the couple if they left the parking lot they'd have a warrant out for their arrest. They weren't allowed to leave with the child until they bought a CAR SEAT. They had to go walking across the street to go buy one.

A three year old is small, and could very easily be ran over by a car in the parkinglot!! GOD this abuse is just AGRAVATING. I just wanted to share that this kind of stupidity runs rampant all over the nation  

 

Oh yeah, havent you guys heard? Sitting on top of the roof of a moving vehicle is so much fun for a 3 year old. And grandma had her by the leg (while she was driving  ) so it was totally safe  .

They let them even leave at all with the kid!?!? Surely they should have had to place the kid into protective custody until the parents or whoever could have picked him/her up.

thats like here i went to wear house one and theres this car beside mine with two babies, i looked at my mom and i was like wtf it was also +35 and there was no windows down, so i went in to the store but kept an eye on it, 45 min later the mom comes rolls down the windows and then goes bk in to the store.

I wasn't there, I only heard people talking about it since it happened several hours before I arrived for my shift. My idea of the whole situation is the couple went to go buy a carseat while the police had custody of the child. I'd assume the parents were contacted....I just don't know for sure.
