posted 11th Aug
So i'm wondering if there is anyone with social anxiety on Gaga? What are your symptoms and how did you get over it? How do you cope with it? Thanks ladies!

I don't have social anxiety, just anxiety in general. My anxiety attacks consist of sweating, diarrhea, crying, fast heart rate, nausea etc...the way I deal with it is anxiety medication. It does wonders for me

I go shopping later in the day or evening to avoide big crowds. . . im uncomfortable in church unless im in overflow where there are only a few people. I used to be the party goer clubbing maniac but after some issues with my ex passing that wasn’t me anymore. I cant go to birthday parties that my daughter is invited too or family functions unless I can escape and be by myself for awhile

not sure what my label is. I don't go to parties, just walking in and seeing all those people talking makes me nervous-especially if they're standing. I can deal with it by finding people I know and sitting somewhere. Sometimes lately I've been able to make conversation like during church-when they say pray for someone near you, but other than that I wouldn't say anything. Have been telling myself to join a small group to meet people-would help if Hubby would do it with me. We're moving now-so maybe we'll do good there. Hope that helps.

Do you even have trouble talking with family? I feel weird, but I'm fine going to my Husband's family things and talking with people no problem. But at mine I just wonder what I'm supposed to say to these people.

I've had severe social anxiety for as long as I can remember. For the longest time, I just avoided going ANYWHERE to the point that I was borderline agoraphobic. I eventually was forced into social situations when I signed up for the Army, though, and had to go through Basic Training with about 200 others that I was in extremely close quarters with all the time. Prior to joining, though, I did end up checking myself into a full time care psychiatric care facility (that was for more than just social anxiety, though), and they got me on some medications for it. I can't take those meds anymore because I'm breastfeeding, but I plan on going on them again once I wean.

I have pretty bad social phobia. I experience sweating, shaking, cold sweats, diahrea, palpitations, blushing, my mind will go blank, etc. These things cause me to avoid most social situations, phone calls, or leaving the house without my SO. I haven't sought help (I avoid it because the thought of one-on-one therapy sessions make me extremely anxious, haha), but from what I've read, the best way to treat it is through SSRI's and cognitive behavioral therapy. It's not really something that one can overcome on their own. If you can get help, you ought to, because it can lead to all sorts of other problems down the road, such as agoraphobia, depression and suicide.

ETA that I even dropped out of college after finding out that I needed to take a public speaking class in order to graduate.

My family knows. . .and its not bad when it’s the adults because there are 5 of us with tons of kids. His family I usually don’t go to bc of his SIL. But I go to his parents house bc it is just us. The kids drive my anxiety nuts. . . my daughter isn’t bad . .. to me I think it is a noise factor too… if it sounds like there are tons of people I cant do it. Walmart at 3am is great for me . . my dh thinks im crazy. His parents know that I have been hospitalized for anxiety and they try to keep me out of the big groups and such
