Mean baby!!

posted 11th Aug
Ok......so my son is almost 7 months old and here recently has started hitting me, (and his whoever is holding him, but mostly just me) and slapping me VERY hard!
I just want to get opinions and experiences from mom's who have gone through this.......Is it something that all babies go through at this age or is it abnormal behavior?
I look him in the eyes when he does it and tell him "No, you don't hit mommy" but it doesnt really seem to be working.
The other day he was slapping me so hard in the chest that it left red marks all over me! Also when he wakes up in the middle of the night or in the morning(we co-sleep) he slaps me in the face to wake me up!!
Help!! I am VERY concerned and want to make sure this is either just a phase he is going through or if it is something more serious......any input is greatly appreciated!!

Haha so funny cause today I was telling my hubby how Cooper beat me up today. He has started hitting the last couple of days, and he's almost 7 months too so i think it'sa phase. Must be a boy thing cause i don't remember my girls doing it.

unless it ilicits a big reaction out of you each time he does it, like gasping loudly or yelling ouch or something, I don't think he is doing it on purpose. However, maybe if you react to it, he may find it amusing? like B, when I am nursing him, he will bite down on my nipple and pull really hard and sometimes he does it so quickly I don't expect it and I squeal loudly and he smiles, like he finds it funny, so I think that is why he keeps doing it.

If hitting is a boy thing, then is biting a girl thing? Because that's my 7 month old daughter's new favorite thing to do. I have bite marks on my arms and face

That sounds like an Aiden for you. Always up to something they know they aen't suppose to do ( my son is also and Aiden)   My son didn't go through this until he was almost 2 and I did a lot of telling him that we don't hit and putting him on time outs. What actually worked for me was gently taping his hand and asking him if he like the way it felt to be hit. He cried out of suprise and I told him that when we hit it hurts. He never did it again. It may not wok for you since your son is so young so I would try a type of time out every time he does it, just to let him know that you are not going to feed into his bad behavior. Good luck!

Thanks for all the replies ladies.....I feel better now, I am thinking it is hopefully just a phase!!

Chelsie.....1st of all OUCH on B biting your nips!!

Secondly......I generally try not to give a reaction to it cause I know they are learning about cause and effect at this age and probably is wanting to get a reaction out of me.....I just gently pull his hands away from wherever he's hitting me and tell him "No, you don't hit mommy"

LOL!! I think it's because the name Aiden means "Little fire" in Irish/Gaelic!!!
My son DEFINETELY lives up to his name!!!

Yep....Aiden does that too
If Chasten is home I have to have him hold Aiden's arms down so I can feed him without there being baby food EVERYWHERE!!
He was doing it SO bad the other day I had to take his banana's away from him and told him "when you can eat like a big boy then we will try this again in a little while"......He did a little bit better at the next feeding *sigh*

I just give Cooper his own spoon. It's a bit messy, but it's how they learn lol.

And let him feed himself?? Or just give him one to play with while you feed him with another spoon???

Yeah, that is why I try my best not to react at all when he bites and yanks on my nips but sometimes he catches me off guard and well, he gets the reaction he was looking for and smiles... the little booger head.
