My scary trip to L&D.

posted 11th Aug
I hate doctors! So heres the story:
I kinda jumped the gun going into L&D cause I was only in pain for a few minutes, but I wanted to know whether or not I was having a contraction or if there was something else wrong because it was continuous and unbearably painful. So i go in, and first off they kept asking me the same stuff OVER and OVER again. I'm just like, can't you guys write this stuff down?
And then comes the scary part:
They say they need to check my cervix. Which is totally fine by me. I've had it checked three times before, once there, and twice by my midwives, sure it was uncomfortable but no biggie and certainly not painful. But THIS doctor was either the most inexperienced or just the WORST doctor ever and the nurse was even WORSE! First off they each spent like 5 minutes in there and they were like tearing and me and yelling at me to tilt my pelvis (which before has always meant tilt but it turns out they meant lift.) I finally started crying and the bitchy nurse scolded me! They honestly hurt me more than the damn contractions.

And the icing on the cake? They couldn't even tell whether I was 1 or 2 cm, they said between there. And they claimed the reason it was so uncomfortable was that my cervix was so far back, so the closer i am to delivery the more comfy it'll get. BULLSHIT! My midwives checked me two and 1 weeks ago, when it was even farther back-they got an exact read and it didn't hurt AT ALL, and it took like 5 seconds! And even on my last trip to L&D over a month ago it didn't hurt.

And then they tried to get me to take something to calm down or for the pain. And i'm completely against narcotics, I only want the epi-no drugs that could affect me or the baby.

They sent me home saying I was just having pre-labor, so it could be a couple hours or a week.

But now I'm scared to go back there!! The midwives I've seen are not on-call so I'm stuck with whoever they give me to deliver my child...and I'm really scared cause I feel like I'm going to have a horrible birth experience, nobody is going to listen to me, and I'm going to be in a lot more pain that neccessary. I was scared before but not like this...I don't know what to do...

the only thng i've read is that it can cause problems latching on. But i'll have a lactation nurse on hand, so i'm willing to risk it. I just don't want her to be groggy or drugged up.

I wouldnt take any crap from them when you go back. if they are rude to you then you need to be getting their names and reporting these people. theres no reason the nurse should be scolding you.

i actually hadn't heard of the latching thing...my best friend's son was born really groggy and out of it...so that was what i meant by affecting the baby.

i wasn't trying to be rude or anything...just letting you know
