Manual or Electric

posted 11th Aug
Okay, I am no that I am not due until November, but I am desperate to breastfeed this baby. I want to make sure that I have a breast pump that is worth something. I have heard that electricbreast pumps hurt and manual ones are too much work... Have you guys got any suggestions?

geez, when I first read the title I thought "dear heavens its about sex toys" lol...but I see it isnt, I guess I just have a dirty mind.
I used a manual pump and never had anything bad to say about it.
It didnt seem like too much work to me at all to use a manual pump.

it depends on your situtation. it depends on where you're panning on usuing it and ho much time and effort you have to put into it.

I used both and while neither hurt the electric was way more convient especially if you can double pump. It takes less time which witha newborn is great. I would invest in a good name pump like medela though so youcan keep it for allyou babies andnever have to buy one again. The ones that you can buy at walmart are just not very good if you are going to be doing lots ofpumping cause they can eventually decrease your milk supply

I just bought the playtex peite double electric pump yesterday! Granted i wont be useing it for a little while so i dont know exactly how it will work...but we picked it becasue I dont plan on pumping all that much ( only for the hubby to have some bonding time and for the few times we'll be away and what not) so spending $300 didnt make sense for me! ours was like $80 I think.... and it seems like it will work great... might sound silly but i wanted to get familiar with it so i took it out and explored with it a little bit! I put it on my breast and it didnt hurt at all!

I would say an electric cuz if breastfeeding doesn't always work
{like in my situtation I have inverted nipples & the nipple shield work but got frustrating but I didn't have an electric... =/ so I gave up..}
you could always pump & bottle feed & trust me manual takes forever!

lol..i thought the same thing...

but to the op..i recommend elecrtic all the way..and not just any elecrtic one either..

the one they gave me w. medicaid was alright but it stopped sucking after a month..so then i got a manual and ouchhhhh...thats all i have to say...it was horrible..

so i just invested in a medela pump..it was great but pricey..too bad i had to stop breast feeding shortly and its just sitting around somewhere in my house

it depends on how much you are going to use it. If you plan to go back to work soon after the baby is born and need to pump several times a day every day, i'd say it's worth the investment. I am going to stay at home with my baby for at least 6 months so i just bought a manual pump. I don't plan to use it very often, but i don't want to be tied to my baby 24/7 for 6 months either, so it seemed like the best option for me. If you think you might want to get an electric, lots of times you can rent ones from your hospital to try out. Good luck and congrats on your decision to breastfeed!
