Hi I have been diabetic for 4 years and this pregnancy has been ok. I went from pills to 5 doses of insulin a day and weekly OB visits right from the start and Diabetes control and you will get a lot of ultrasounds, NST and amniotic fluid tests. I get ultrasounds NST and amniotic fluid checks 2 times a week at the hospital I am delivering in. Lots of xhecking sugars. My sugars were fine until 3rd trimester hormones kicked in and girl they got screwed up. Insulin is great though for me. Took that sick feeling away that pills gave me..LOL Good luck and congrats and pm me if you have any other questions.

I had gestational diabetes with at least my last baby, possibly with a few before him.  I'm pregnant with my 8th now, and since the GD has shown up so early in the pregnancy, the doctors suspect I now have Type 2 Diabetes.  I just found this out in the last few weeks, so I'm still trying to digest it all.  It's stressing me out a bit, because I'm worrying about everything I eat, and it's hard to test my blood 2 hours after a meal because I'm hungry a lot and tend to eat or snack often, not to mention that the other kids keep me on the go a lot and I forget to bring my blood-testing kit with me.  I'd love to hear suggestions for meals, snacks, and remembering to test my blood if you have any!  Thanks!

Wow... I know its hard. I just hit 6 months today but my insulin pump beeps at me when its time to test. They do have meters you can set alarms for, but i would just do the meal times (Pre and Post) and then once in a while test inbetween.

I have been a type one diabetic since 2003 I was diagnosed with it at the age of 19. I have had a lot of trouble tryign to keep it under control, I often had an A1c of 10 plus...nine months before i got my last one it was a 13.9 and I had just recently misscarried my first child. The OB's said it was because of my uncontrolled diabetes. I was devistated that my diabetes made me lose my baby. I blamed myself for months. This pregnancy just like the last was a surprise, we found out the day before my husbands birthday, and I had recently gotten my A1c down to a 7.6. By week 16 in this pregnancy my a1c was down to a 6.1! I was also lucky to find out earlier this time around. If you can make it through your first trimester I was told that the risk of misscarriage is depleted. I am now 22 weeks pregnant with my first child and son, he will be monitored closely, and so will I. I am still scared sometimes but everytime I feel him move I feel blessed, and I know he is ok...If anyone needs any advice please please let me know. I have many diabetics in my family, and my mother went through two pre-existing diabetic pregnancies both my sister and I, and my father still rememebers what all that was like. I am here if anyone needs a shoulder to lean on or a question answered!

I wish you the best. I am scared too and I was at the doctor on Tuesday and my sugar was slightly high. I find it hard to control after dinner and when I wake up to check my sugar it is on average 130-149. I will be going to my diabetic doctor in a couple of weeks and maybe we can see if we can try something else.

They have made slight adjustments to my insulin regiment, I was only a month before pregnancy on 95 units of Lantus in the Am and 85u at bedtime, and on a higher sliding scale of Humalog. Now they have me on a 3u to 1 serving of carbs ratio regiment and it seems to be working a little better. It's something your docs have to fine tune. Are you seeing an Endocrinologist? My sugar is being handled through my High Risk clinic.

It raising higher after meals makes me wonder what kind of regiment of insuiln they have you on, they will probably give you a higher dose before dinner (dunno not a doc but was having the same problem)

If you need anything else let me know! I recently was told they eventhough they don't like it over 200 an occassional 200+ level is ok...I was freaked out really bad!
