KiSS Syndrome ???

posted 10th Aug '08
So, Scarlett is going to be 6 weeks old tomorrow. Since she was born she has been very very fussy and crys all the time, even in her sleep (when she sleeps). I have taken her to 4 diffrent doctors and i have also taken her to the emergency room twice. Everyone tells me it is only gas. Well i know that babies get gas but she has it all day every day. I give her drops in her bottle for gas, i give her special formula for gas. i tried baths and massaging her belly. i have tried everything. NOTHING helps. i took her to the doctor on monday and again she said it is only gas. i took her again on thursday and this time the doctor got to see how she screams all the time and finally she could see this isn't just gas. Now the doctor thinks she has a thing called KiSS Syndrome. As far as i could find out it is a neck injury from the trauma of birth. It is a very new thing and i can't find very much info on it.

so what i need to know is has anyone heard of this? Does anyone know any kids who have had this? I am taking her to a specialist tomorrow and i am so scared. I don'T know what they are going to do, if anything. I am also scared because if it isn't this that she has and no one can help with the scareming all the time i have no idea what i am going to do. I have no one but my husband to help me and he works full time. So if anyone has any info or advice or anything i would be very thankfull.

i have never heard of it either. if it's not that could it be that she's lactose and tolerant? or maybe is still hungry and the formula/breast milk doesnt fill her tummy up?

I just read something on this and remembered a friend who's baby had the same problems with being super fussy and not eating properly and they took the baby to a chiropractor and had him adjusted to fix his alignment and he ended up being like a whole new baby. Sometimes when they are born the trauma of birth messes with the alignment and can cause problems. Most likely that's what they'll do but they need to probably do some X rays to check that this is what's causing her problems and then adjusting her alignment will do wonders.

Wow sounds like we were living the same nightmare, although my daughter just ended up having really bad acid reflux.Has anyone offered that suggestion to you?I'm not a truster of chiropractors and had many suggest the same when my daughter was an infant, but I finally got a diagnosis with reflux and started her on Zantac and 3 days later she was completely different-still a little more demanding but cried 1/8 of the time.Mabey just ask about the reflux, it can be silent, meaning not a lot of spit-up but nonetheless still as painful. After that I say go for the chiropractor, quality of life is important, and I felt robbed of my daughters first few months because no doctor wouls take us seriously neither.Good luck!

I read the web link... and am freaked out now that my daughter has it.   is there anyway to know for sure? But she doesn't cry all the time ... but all the other symptoms seem to match. I'm such a worry wart.

aahh.... me too! My baby has mostof the symptoms! No Drs will take me seriously. I suspected he may have had silent reflux but was told by one Dr "There is no such thing" !?!? Ive got him on colic formula and added thickener to his bottles for the exessive vomiting. My Pedi said that he does have a crooked neck and to do some gentle streatching excercises and to make sure he looks over his right shoulder more to streatch it out. But now im thinking he may have this. Ive never heard of it before.

thank you everyone for the suggestions. I have looked into reflux. I thought at first it was that as well but her pedi says it isn't that for sure. She said she is gaining to much weight for it to be that. Like i said i took her to the doctor twice last week. Monday i went in asking about this reflux and thursday i went in for her 4-6 week check up and she finally got to see how she is. i think no one beleived me before this becuase when ever we took her to the dr or the ER she would fall asleep in the carseat and be an angel when anyone else saw her.

I have never heard of his before either but it seams like it could be the answer. Her pedi said it is a new discovory and that a lot of doctors and insurance companies don't even recognize it at a real condition. She said we might have to pay for the treatment ourselfs. I don't care about that though, i don't care what it coasts as long as it helps my baby.

thats exactly how i feel. i feel robbed and angry that no one would listen to me. I feel like she has suffered all this 6 weeks for nothing. Only because no one would listen to me.

Just so you know, and I'm not saying that your baby does have it, but my daughter gained weight like a champ because I fed her every two hours to shut her up.Also I had 4 docs say it was just colic, even though it was my second kid, I was older and very experienced with babies-just go with your gut, ask them if it would hurt to try some acid reflux medicine, unless you'd rather go the other route.Again I wish you luck, and if you need to vent you can pm me, I think I've finally figured out how to reply.

i will bring it up for sure tomorrow with this new dr.

I would have them at least palpate her like they say they do and make sure because if it is the KiSS syndrome they need to examine her and if it goes untreated it can have serious developmental issues. It doesn't hurt to get a second opinion but if she does have it, from what I've read its really easy to treat with one or two adjustments and it shows great improvement. And from what I've been told by my friend your baby has a mild case of it if she does. It can be really bad with scoliosis of the face and back, and difficulty keeping their head up and leaning to one side cuz the spine is curved to one side and stuff like that.

i am taking her to see a KISS specialist tomorrow. i hope if she does have this, they will give her her first treatment tomorrow.

My hubby says our baby doesn't have it. But he's not around the baby as much as I am. I'll just ask about it at the next appt. But knowing the naval hospital they won't know crap. grrr. Hopefully changing insurance soon so we can decided where and who sees our girl. Maybe then I'll find a doctor who knows something. Maybe I just have first time mom jitters about everything. I've raised my younger siblings from newborns but for some reason having it be "mine" I'm so much more worried then I ever was with them.
