its good that you finally got a diagnosis. Now she can be treated and be a normal happy little baby girl. I took my son to the chiropractor yesterday, and last night he actually slept! He has been really settled too, which is unusual but great. His neck was out too, and needed some adjusting. He will prob need 2-3 sessions but it has already eased his reflux, he has hardly spit up at all since seeing the chiro.
All the best to u and ur lil girl

well it is wednesday night here and we took her monday afternoon. i haven't sean any real improvment. she still keeps her head to the right most of the time and crys all the time. The midwife was here yesterday and got to see/smell one of her poops and she said we should take her to the doctor again. She said she never saw a baby in her age smell that bad. She thinks she may also have a milk allergy....

i don't think we will ever find out what it really is. I will take her back to the doctor tomorrow. i feel so hopeless.

aw... ur poor baby. its so hard when u know that there is something wrong with ur child, but there is nothing u can do to help. have u tried giving her some infants paracetamol? When my son was distressed he would constantly grunt and groan, shake his head from side to side and claw at his face and arms. I ended up just giving him some infants panadol and it would calm him down a little. Also my sons chiro said that baby might be unsettled after an adjustment, and u will usually see results after a few sessions, i think we just got lucky and it relieved him straight away, although he will need to be re adjusted every week until it sticks. Are you going to get her allergy tested?? I think u can get ur dr to refer u to an allergy specialist and its a pretty straight forward test. My son will be allergy tested as well, his chiro does that as well.

Dear "sick-girl" KISS syndrome is a name for a collection on symptoms that arise due to a suboccipital strain (this is part of the skull at the back of the head). In the infant the child's skull is malleable - otherwise wouldn't be able to fit through on birth. If this area becomes strained then a collection of funcitonal problems are reported to occur. It sounds if your daughter may fit many of thouse symptoms. Treatment often involves gentle corrective maniupulation of the upper cervical spine (top of the neck) and or the cranial bones themselves. As well and the consultant you might want to contact a chiropractor or osteopath in your area that specialises in children and the cranium as research supports that children respond very well to this non invasive treatment

Dear parent! I work as an Pediatric Osteopath in New Zealand and I treat babies with KISS-syndrome on a daily basis. Is very common and both Cranial / or pediatric Osteopaths and pediatric chiropractors are very good at dealing with this and we hav 100% positive results. Anne

My new grandson in Norway is thought to have KISS syndrome, but the special baby chiropractor there doesn't call it a syndrome because, she said, "then peope think it is an illness." She has used very gentle manipulation of his head and shouders. Her explanation is that he wwas delivered by C-section and didn't get a full-body massage through the birth canal. He was also a very big baby (10 lbs) and so was pretty squished in the womb. He has been fussy, but is a good eater and seems to be more relaxed and calm after a massage. From what I have read (which I did IMMEDIATELY when my son told me the "diagnosis) is that it is not serious for the child. But it is uncomfortable. Find a chiroprator who deals with infants. They can be a God-send! And remember, crying is merely oisy, not fatal. Good luck!

My baby Lachlan has KISS syndrome from birth he always cried in his sleep when i bathed him he's back always arched to one side he was a very happy baby during the day but never slept for more than 10 mins at a time he had really bad reflux to the piont i felt i had to stop breast feeding to use reflux formnula he cried alot for what seamed like no resason but the doctors just said its was reflux or gas! so i googled babies with sleeping problems and found KISS syndrome i then took him to a chiropractor and he said it was KISS so he started treatment after 8 times of seeing the chiro not much had changed or Lachy would get better but only for a couple days then be back to normal crying all the time! i heard of other babies having the same kind of thing but only needed to see a chiro 4x max so i took Lachy to a different chiro for a second opinion the new chiro said his neck was out his hgip was out and 3 bones in his back were out! he fixed him over 3 sessions now at 6 months old Lachy only wakes once a night for food   if your baby does have KISS it should only take about 3x to fix if you see a good chiropracotor if its taking longer i suggest trying a different chiro not a naturopath as they only do slow natural treatment it looked like he was only giving Lachy a massage, my poor little boy was in pain for months because of a naturopath only doin minimum! but y new chiro actually snapped his neck back into place over 3 sessions it scary to watch but lachy never cried and he is the best baby now   my new chrio also said you shouldnt call it a syndrome because, "then peope think it is an illness." both my chiropractor where baby ones i found this site the most explaining

KISS syndrome

KISS syndrome
What is KISS syndrome?
KISS is the abbreviation for: Kopfgelenk Induzierte Symmetrie Störungen.
This German acronym is also known in English as “Kinetic Imbalances due to Suboccipital Strain”. This means that there are functional problems with the upper vertebrae of the neck which can disturb the symmetrical development of the baby or the growing child.

Scientific explanation.
The area of the upper neck vertebrae is very complex and sensitive; it plays a significant part in supporting the head, the sense of balance, the definition of spatial awareness and movement in general.
We know that in this area the membranes and ligaments of the vertebrae and the muscles are equipped with a multitude of sensors that register movement.
These sensors transport an enormous quantity of information to various parts of the brain, and these control the muscles, balance, swallowing, vision, psychomotor development, etc.
Incorrect positioning of one of these vertebrae is caused by abnormal tension on the ligaments, membranes and muscles, and disturbs the transmission of information. The brain cannot therefore react properly to problems with motor function or posture.

Possible causes

At delivery:
- premature birth
- twins, triplets, etc
- prolonged or difficult delivery
- very rapid delivery
- malposition in the uterus
- delivery with forceps or ventouse
- emergency caesarean section
- prolapsed umbilical cord
- premature rupture of the membranes
- blue baby
- prenatal trauma
- low birth weight

During growth:
- narcosis
- physical lesion: if the infant or child suffers a fall or al blow to the head this has repercussions for the structure of the vertebral column.

The syndrome can give rise to various pains and abnormalities.

The majority of these pains disappear during growth. Recovery seems to occur, but it is only apparent. The impulse that urges the child to sit, stand and walk enables it to overcome the problems well.
This latent or compensatory phase remains with the child for a long time.

Family tendency : apart from the presence of one of the above causes, it is always possible that a family trait may be encountered.

Possible symptoms

Early signs:
- the back is often curved
- marked tendency to arch the back
- asymmetric development of the hips
- asymmetric movements of the arms and legs
- development of asymmetric skull

- always sleeps in the same position
- head tilted to one side with a bald patch on one side
- the child does not like to be cuddled
- bouts of unexplained fever
- normal sucking and swallowing reflex
- poor appetite, difficulties in feeding/eating. The infant feeds normally at the breast but refuses anything else and cries constantly…
- the child cries a lot and sleeps badly
- the child tries to stand up very early
- the child skips the crawling stage
- the child is late learning to walk
- neck straight and flattened
- exaggerated extension of one foot
- difficulty holding the head straight and erect
- generally weak muscle tone
- flattened back of the head

Later signs:
- problems with balance
- poor posture
- the child falls or staggers frequently
- it always or frequently walks on tiptoe
- tiredness
- atypical stomach ache
- fatigue, lack of energy
- sleep problems: difficulty falling asleep, frequent waking up, restless sleep, little sleep…
- trouble concentrating, quickly forgetting a given task, variable school results
- migraines
- recurring headaches, or headaches on waking up
- neck pain and stiffness
- back pain
- changes in behaviour: easily discouraged, temper tantrums, uncertainty, nervousness, demanding a lot of attention

Treatment

Assessment includes:
- questionnaire for parents
- observation of child
- assessment of movement
- palpation of the vertebral column and pelvis
- taking of X-rays
- discussion with departments already consulted

Treatment : consists principally of corrective manipulation (reflex-impuls technic) of the upper vertebral column. The force necessary is so minimal that this treatment is totally painless and free of risk. The manipulation is so subtle that a layperson might not be able to see it.
